OK you truckers...

I would have had to walk away and mumble, No Effin Way...

The nice thing about a load on a 19 axle is that it steers from both ends and you have lots of help. Police escorts and at least 2 civilian pilot cars or more.

Going through Chicago 14' wide is much more stressful because Illinois doesn't require escorts until you're wider than that and even when you straddle 2 lanes they will still try to get between you and the curb or oncoming traffic.

Once you cure yourself of the Billy Bigtime go far go fast freight hauler mentality, it's not too bad. On a load like that 19 axle, sometimes 50 miles is a big day.

I brought a Fly Bridge Tolley Craft Yacht from Kelso, Washington to Freeport, Long Island back in the winter of '80. That little beauty was 14'6"H X 14'3"W and 73'L and they routed me right thru' Chicago on 159th street. That day I got all the way from Beloit, WI. to the junction of 41 + SR2 almost to Naked City south east of Gary, In. ah stones throw.AND WE KNOW ALL ABOUT NO ESCORTS IN THE LAND OF LINCOLN TOO. That was the one I told you about last year when you and your friendz were on your way to Seattle twostick where I had to cut thru' the median to the west bound side AT SPEED to have enough room to clear that overpass at Moses Lake, Wa. lol

We used to use that route years ago before they did away with needing a permit for that first stretch of the Toll Road before you get to I80 west. We called it The Hole in the Wall because of the railway viaduct you had to go through west of I94. I forget how high it was now but you would have been the full of it with that boat.

Two Stick, To get that little boat from I-90 over to sr43 south I had to turn north 3 times to go over the top of 3 different RR Viaducts each time and then back south to get back on 159th st. 'til I got to the next one? WTH? Across Indiana and Ohio I was running 2 lane 'til I got to Youngstown To get me across onto I-80. And then get me almost to the Watergap and then stage behind a K-Mart 'til midnight so the Pilot could escort me across the Verrazano Bridge and spend the next 9 hours getting thru' Manhattan an half way out on the Isle of Long to deliver that Little Puppy. And that Owner of the Marina had the audacity to ask what kept me. I looked at him and said "give me those two certified checks totalling almost $300,000 and pour me a half glass of your private whiskey and I'll gladly sit down somewhere warm and tell you the whole store. Without saying a word he turned around headed for hiz office and came back with the 2 checks. One for the boat and another one for the freight because those were the rules when you hauled boats no mater what the size or the price for freight. The clown never said another word to me. FWI, I never got the booze either from that pompous ***, go figure? I know you've had those kind of trips to Pal. We all have if we've been out there any appreciable amount of time. Happy Trails to you, Jer

. For 33 cents a mile
I saw a sign on a regional truck offering .60 CPM
I was making that 10 years ago as a newbie when economy was in the toilet after my trucks crankshaft broke in two. That was driving a scumbag scrap dump trailer.
Your right, they are borderline illegal.
But they will happily take any degenerate, homeless, and just like prison or the army they give you enough money to by some food and a free bed. Probably better than sleeping on a bench in Sebring in January.

Along the lines of the previous post.
So you want to be a owner/operator.
Well here is some fun stuff to look forward to doing on a holiday weekend.

Lay on the horn and take the ramp. I'm not trying to die for someone else's stupidity.
At this point that red Chevy has driven it's last mile.

The red car is to the left of the ramp on the access path. The car further up is on the ramp, the snow patch the people are sledding on is the ramp. There is a second set of delineators marking the right side of the ramp.

How many pairs of sunglasses do you need?

Not mine they are safety and burning glasses, and a bottle of soap water. My son is cutting up a couple of Chevy trucks to gather parts for his. He is pretty good safety wise, that has never sunk in on me.
A couple of pictures of the truck he is building.

Let's be clear, he is building a square body Chevy truck. The orange Pete behind is my old truck.
Back in a different lifetime ago I had and collected a pile of these Chevy trucks. Mostly a friend had a knack for finding them for free and some extras came my way. I had started building one with a 4" suspension lift and a welded on 3" body lift. Then things changed a bit and then the orange Pete behind broke so everything got placed on hold, and never went back to it. He is now 15yo and the driver's license is looming and a Plymouth Neon is okay, but not the same as a big, old, 4x4. With his newly developed welding skills he is putting in new panels on the cab (not pictured) then it will be mated back up to frame after the rest of the driveline goes back in. He can't take his driving test till January 2021 so he has some time and has made pretty good progress. I will keep you updated as he goes. Top of that grill is in my armpit it will go down a bit with engine and cab, but tires will basically bring it back up.
