Moving an Imperial on a Uhaul trailer

I towed a empty u haul trailer 1100 miles from Jersey to Missouri to pick up a 70 Polara. I towed that car home without a problem, without sway at 80 mph on the flat. It was 2200 miles round trip.
We all know U haul does like you to tow a C. So, we tell them you are trailering a 1971 Dart 6 cyl.

Good luck you'll do fine.

I'll go anywhere to get a car and Uhaul now rates my cars as approved vehicles!

An Imperial weighs between 5,000# and 5,500#, depending on year and body style. Wheelbase is 129". The GVW of a U-Haul auto transport is 5K#. The trailer itself is 1,700#, so you're overloading it by nearly a ton. You break it, you own it...at over $5,000 for the trailer. Do you really think going cheap, and going dangerous, is worth it? Hire someone, unless you have access to a car hauler that can handle the weight and size. Yeah, you can tell them you're hauling a Cavalier or a Taurus; but if you have a wreck or break their equipment, you can learn the hard way, if you like. Some of you guys are true cheap-a$$e$.

I believe that he should get one of these: DONE.
(I almost bought one last year). Still on the radar...

This 73 Cadillac sits on MY HD car trailer. I needed to deliver it. My dodge diesel broke down.
I tried to rent a truck to tow it. NO rental place (Uhaul,Hertz,Ryder) etc would rent me a truck.
They would rent me a 24ft truck to tow with, but not a 1 ton. Got my truck fixed.

Uhaul will not let you keep the trailer.
They will charge you for the trailer and keep it for parts or repair.
Uhaul does not sell or release any of their trailers. I've tried for years in multiple states.
So you pay for it, but you don't own it.

I'm surprised and apparently wrong.
Although I tried to buy one of those older orange ones in January from a rep. He said no. Can't do it.
Interesting though. I'll call.

We had this conversation on here before. I took your stance and was proven wrong. Yet to this day if you wanna buy one the local U haul says No, they don't sell them.

U-Haul sells trucks vans, and auto transports. They don't sell any of their other trailers or dollies. My son worked for U-Haul for over four years, so I know this to be true.

If you ever see a U-Haul cargo trailer (open or enclosed) for sale, that trailer is considered stolen, even if its been out of service for 20 or 30 years.

Look under "trucks and trailers for sale"
Follow the instructions.

So no, I'm not ******* with you. By me driving up there, winching the car onto my flatbed, and driving home, I know I have some control over the situation. I

No, you are ******* with us. The whole premise of the thread is ******* with us. By leading us to believe you actually needed a truck and trailer, when you have your own.

My point was, that if you have your own 2500 series pickup AND your own 9k trailer why would you want to rent a POS Uhaul and one of their trucks, for $2000 plus airfare and dealing with all that.
Even if you rented their stuff you'd still have to winch it on the trailer and hope you didn't get in a wreck, and get busted for overloading their equipment.

Do you want the car or don't you? Go get it yourself with your own truck.

The U-haul I rented last month was actually a really nice trailer at a great price. But with so much overhang the *** end on my wagon swang around like a fat girl on the dance floor at bar time. Strapped down I could only keep it at 60 mph.
