What are you working on today??

Lots a glue and clamps and Old English wood conditioner. Some Patience too....

But I think it turned out pretty well.

Now I have to turn my attention to the mechanical part! It’s pretty cool working on something that was originally made over 100 years ago.

Been putting some time in on this 440. Just need to put some plug wire retainers on it and then I'll be ready to take it off the engine stand and put the new flywheel and clutch on it, then into the 68 Newport you see in the background.

Some of you may remember a previous thread of mine when I was in the process of buying this Newport. It is a factory 3-on-the-tree that a PO converted to a 4-speed w/ a Hurst pistol grip shifter.

The car was not running when I bought it so I don't know what the condition of the mechanicals are. It had a 440 in it but it was partially disassembled. I'm putting this running 440 in it that was in my 68 New Yorker so I can at least have a known good engine in it so I can asses the condition of the rest of the driveline and work on getting the electrical sorted.

I just finished getting my console looking nice. I have been breaking down the interior into individual projects. I had this out while I'm installing

new carpet so figured now was a good time to tackle it

In the process of painting my 66/300. I'm not a car painter but I know someone that stayed at a Holiday Inn once. I painted my El Camino and it came out passable for my low standards.
The car will be Black with "possibly" copper pearl lace panels on the lid.
Very little rust repair was done and I just finished sanding out the body filler where I welded in the small patches. I hope to start squirting paint this weekend.
Waiting on parts to show up, disc brake set up, new re-pop rear lenses from Mike, tires, window cat whiskers, roof rail rubber, lowering blocks and shims.
Now before any of the purists start telling me to not lower the car and not put 15 inch tires on the car etc. I refer you to the greatest song of all time.

I was working on this Saturday with my youngest son.

I pulled the carbs the week before, he stopped by the shop after work and cleaned them. Drained all the old fuel out also, lots of water in it. It had been sitting when I got it last year.
We installed the carbs Saturday, replaced the choke cables, spark plugs, filled the fuel and got it started.
Took it out and destroyed the old belt

We hunted down a new belt later Saturday and my kid went out riding with his buddy on Sunday.
If we don't get another good snow it will be sitting in the shed until next winter.

Today I finished all of the prep for painting, sanded and masked off. My plan is to squirt on the paint and first clear coat tomorrow.
I'll cut and buff it on weds and on Thursday I'll lay out the panels for the lace work on the roof. Once my lace shows up I'll add the pearl to more clear and lace the top. Then on Friday another cut and buff and it will be painted (I hope)
I'm waiting for the new tail light lenses from Mike and I will put them in he new chrome housing and get them on the car followed by the rear bumper. While I'm waiting I'll do the disc conversion and get at the lowering kit. Lastly I need to fix any little tidbits like get the stereo sorted out.
I know my work flow isn't the best option but I'm trying to get done what I can while I can. Discs won't be here for another three weeks or so, not sure when I'll get the new lenses, lace material won't be here till next week and so on.

Today is spring in the Dakota’s. Should break 50 today.
Perfect day for a cook and some car tweaking.
I stumbled across a video last week in butterflying and slow cooking a Pork butt and a slicing it like a brisket. I started drooling. It didn’t help that Costco was an enabler as they had the Pork Butts on sale.
I have two big green eggs. I hated that I couldn’t slow cook and fast cook at the same time. I use one about weekly (unless it is below 0 or blizzarding and other stays covered most of the time. I bought both used . I have about $1,200 invested in both which also included the tables, one temperature control, a drywall lift and 10x10 canvas covered gazebo. Plus another $230 for a WiFi Egg genius temperature control (a present I bought for myself last night. )
So I am doing two different flavors. One coated with Maple Syrup and rub smoked over maple, apple, and Cherry ( with a little Oak and Hickory lump charcoal. The second coated with mustard then rub smoked with hickory and Alder, for maybe a little stronger flavor. Put them on around 5:30. Hope they are done for dinner.

Oh, in between I need to re-align my steering wheel. It is a little off after taking out the column and fixing the little hats that hold the shift tube in the column. And need to do some adjustment on my reverse lights.

Sounds yummy.
I have a Primo big one in a teak stand with a cyber-Q controller.
Spatchcocking a chicken is very simple.
I really enjoy grilling with it.
Butt Rub is my go seasoning and I really enjoy dumping some coffee tree chunks in with the lump charcoal...

And you are right that the weather is fabulous here in the Dakotas...
