There are some great paints out there that closely match unpainted steel. A light coat of that would not hurt. Or a coat of self etching primer and then the unpainted steel paint.

I have a large four wheel stand from HF. I like it. It held my fully loaded 440 with no issues. I will use the 2x4 trick in the future though. If I had it to do over I would get a four wheel stand with a crank for turning the motor. As always, be extremely careful with large weights above...
