Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

Funny... I'm ... OLD ... and was driving NEW cars starting in the late 60's, along with all my buddies. Not ONCE do I recall any of those issues with those vehicles. I had a New 1970 GTX with drums all around, a buddy had a Charger R/T with Disc Front. We basically street raced all the...

Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

Drum Brakes have acquired a 'bad rap' over the years due to customers asking for 'The CHEAPEST one you've got' at the parts counter. You can trust me on that, I did retail Car Parts for 15 years, half of that as a Store Manager in a small rural town. Over and over, for both Disc Pads and...

Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

'Once upon a time', it was common practice to 'arc' a set of brake shoes to the freshly recut drum. That was when there were shops with MECHANICS in the bay, not 'Diagnostic Code Readers'. I personally would not let any of the modern breed of 'Technician' touch my vehicles.

Finally someone with the CORRECT solution! I knew such things existed, but I'm 'old' and out of touch! That's a true solution, spend what it costs and you will love the results. I grew up with showroom new factory Mopar Drum brake cars and I promise you, they STOPPED great. Bruce

I was 'OK" with WIX becoming Mann-Hummel, that was several years back. However this is very recent and it appears NAPA Gold are no longer supplied by Mann-Hummel. Don't know 'who' but the NAPA boxes did not have Mann-Hummel as in the past and even worse stated 'Made in China' instead. B

NAPA 'Heads Up'.... I'm in no way 'knocking' NAPA here, in fact friends of mine own 6 stores outright. However, I was recently made aware of a ...SERIOUS... change to their Filters. Back as far as 30 plus years, the NAPA Gold Filters were simply WIX Gold filters custom labeled and boxed for...

Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

I'm a little out of touch with the aftermarket parts industry, retired in 2018. I looked up your car at NAPA Online and it shoes 11x3 on the front, Part # TS148 and 11x2.5 on the rear, Part # TS174. They only supply one quality level which is dissappointing, however 'in the old days' NAPA...

Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

Unless you were previously 'AWARE' of the differences, you most likely installed a full set of sub-standard garbage Brake Shoes. I was a Parts Store Manager for many long years. 90% of the shoes we sold were pure garbage. You can NOT depend on the 'person' selling you the parts to have a CLUE...

    I got a Station Wagon!

I'm so envious... That is an absolutely gorgeous car! Try to keep it as original as possible, please don't 'improve it' into the scrap heap! Bruce

Leaf Springs or Air Shocks for sagging 197070 Chrysler 300

An additional problem with either Air Shocks or Coil Over shocks is the SHOCK they are based on. The companies know the customer buying that product is generally uninformed, so they use the lowest quality shock to modify into that configuration. New Leafs!!! B

    Shocks for 72 C body

Former 'Auto Parts' store experience here. Monroe/Napa shocks are the same after you open the box. Air shocks are designed with a primary mission, to supplement the carrying capacity of the Springs/Torsion Bars. Monroe adds the 'Air Support' feature to their most 'basic' shock, due to them...

    Lifter noise at start up

Fury Fever.... I've been repairing and maintaining Mopars since 1970, currently have two long term vehicles. One is a 1976 Power Wagon 360 4bbl that I put the engine together in 1986. Around 250,000 miles with no issues. The other Flat Tappet engine was put into service in 1995 and has...

    Lifter noise at start up

Are you willing to do a relatively cheap experiment? Get a WIX 51515 Oil Filter (NAPA 1515)... Do not accept a substitute, that 'they' say is the same. Get 15w40 Diesel Spec motor Oil, Chevron Delo, Mobil Super 1300, ..not.. some generic store brand and NOT Synthetic. To keep all things...

1965 Dodge 383 Motor Bogging Down Under Hard Acceleration

Sorry, I started on another thread, then tripped and fell into this one! It's such a common issue for folks to install a 'GM' version Coil, I can't count how many times I've I've had to correct that... B

That may be so... However the stock MoPar Ignition Coil DOES require a voltage reduction. B
