The charging system is working again! It is almost certain that the problem was caused by the fused contacts, but it is good to know the ohm readings for the voltage regulator---I hope it helps someone else.
65Port you ask a good question on why the contacts were fused in the first place...
I have a failed unit and have been considering trying to put a new diaphragm in the shell. Someday, the supply of these is going to run out, so might as well figure it out now..... Anyway, getting them apart is a somewhat brutal process--in this case, I used a pair of needle-nose vice-grips...
Having charging problems and found that my voltage regulator's upper contacts had welded themselves together. After breaking them loose and cleaning up the contacts, I checked ohm readings between the ING and FLD tabs while holding the regulator's arm in the 3 positions. (trying to hold...
I feel for you stu’s68furyiiirat. The desire to re-use parts is high, especially so when you're already "IN" and find more stuff to add to the cost.
If you can, box up the stuff, take it back, and ask for a 727 that hasn't been full of water. If you already have a rebuild kit, be careful...
I'm happy to report I'm now the proud owner of a 440 Block. I found a local fellow who was willing to part with one, and in the process got to meet a really nice and very knowledgeable Mopar enthusiast!
Next step is get it to the machine shop for cleaning/magna flux, measuring, etc...
The first time I heard of it was my Dad, his friend, and I were at a machine shop looking at a German engine my Dad was having rebuilt. A set of the next size up pistons were staggeringly expensive and Dad's friend (bit of a hot rodder) suggested having the existing ones knurled. The idea was...
Some good stuff here:) Rick T-- Love the 78' New Yorker engine!
Just an observation on drum brakes. After watching a number of impressive drum brake muscle cars at the drag strip and on road courses, I don't believe that drum brakes are junk. In fact, it was a bit of a shock to learn these...
Anyone ever try mating a 383 up to a modern, OD transmission? Recently, I spent some time working on a Doug Nash 4+3 in an 84 Vette (the original Project Sketchy). When we got the car, the overdrive wasn't working (a combination of mouse-modified wiring, corroded contacts, and stuff plugged...
Some great ideas and suggestions!
Anybody have any experience with 440source.com? They have some inspiring stuff on their website.
Now I just need to find a good 383 block. Hmmm...think Santa could get one down the chimney?
The car is a mostly original 1967 Newport, 2dr, 383 4-barrel, 727. Body is in good shape, interior is a little rough with rips in the front seat and a missing headliner. Engine runs okay, but is down on power and smokes a little on startup. It needs more power. 450-500hp at the crank would...
Very Nice. Is yours a 383 with the 2 barrel? What sort of plans do you have for yours? Full restoration, daily driver, hot rod?
Here is my project car...
I'm hoping to see someone say...."On longs trips with my 1967 Newport, I take...."
Anyway. as a founding member of the I Can't Pass By a Wrecking Yard Without Checking, I used to have a list of stuff I drug around in my truck.
Tools...a mostly complete 1/2 and 3/8 rachet set, open/boxed end...
