Good morning guys. Finally got the vert back home yesterday and it's time to do a few things before I drive it. I have read all the threads here and also the Allpar articles on alternator/voltage regulator upgrades. I want to get a Remy 20153 60A alternator listed for a '73 Newport along with the correct Airtex/Wells 1V1081 regulator and connectors for both.I can get all the stuff from Rockauto for $83.38 shipped. Has anyone done this upgrade? Any tips would be appreciated! I will be doing the thru bulkhead wiring change for the ammeter, putting on a DB Electrical mini starter and a Pertronix II ignition kit w/ Flamethrower II coil. I think all these things together will really upgrade the reliability and smoothness of my car. Thoughts?

When the Father-in-Law got the sporty it still had the mechanical regulator on it but someone put on a dual field alt (only one field connected), when it developed charging issues I converted it to a later solid state regulator and ran new wiring to both fields on the alt. I didn't run any new wiring to the ammeter though.

My 69 A100 had some issues when I got it and the charging system wiring for it was AFUed, after trying to figure it out I went to the boneyard and grabbed a newer style regulator, alternator and as much wiring for it as I could get from a 74 Dodge and it's been the best up grade for what I need. The alt. is like a 65 amp unit, more then what I need.
