I know members here periodically post vacation pics on individual threads. I don't know that we have a common thread for everyone? So this thread is for anyone that has pics of a vacation that they want to share.

Britta and I flew into Venice to start a cruise that hit Dubrovnik, Kotor, Olympia, Athens and Split. This was our first cruise and we were with friends that are experienced cruisers to show us the ropes. I'd highly recommend this route and Norwegian Cruise Lines. We then met my daughter Sabrina to spend a couple days in Venice. After that we all took the overnight train to Austria to stay with Britta's sister. These pics just give you a flavour.

First up Dubrovnik. The Ombla depicted is the shortest river in Europe coming straight out of the base of a mountain.

Olympia. The first Greek Olympic games were performed at this location for centuries. It also doubled as a religious pilgrimage centre. Interestingly the Greek athletes performed nude while the women remained dressed. It tells you something about the Greeks I suppose...

Athens. The new Olympic games started there late in the 19th Century at the forum depicted. The Acropolis just blew my mind and is now off my bucket list. Look up the architectural engineering that went into the construction 3 centuries BC and it will astound you.

Starting to look like there is going to be a "you suck list" for vacations coming soon. :) Seriously though, this looks to have been an epic vacation. Were there any days with bad weather? even weather that would be considered marginally poor? great pictures!

Split. Diocletian built his retirement palace here. He was apparently a ruthless psychopath who was so paranoid about assassination that by the time he died he had beheaded most of the residents. I learned some history on this trip.

Austria. Lots of family here. We stayed in the town of Altmunster. The picture with the house with the red roof is the view from the balcony of Britta's sisters place. We visited Bad Ischl the summer residence of Kaiser Franz Josef and Hallstatt the prehistoric salt producing area of Austria. Cant

believe the number of oriental tourists we ran into there. Travel is best by train where you can relax and take in the beautiful alpine scenery.

Thank you for a great thread idea and fantastic photos...that Kotor shot of the harbor from high up is something else!

Great pictures! That first one with the suspension bridge is fantastic. Makes me wonder why WE can't have beautiful bridges like that, too? Unless the added USA traffic volumes might not work too well with that style?

Thanks,

Thanks for creating the new thread. Looks like you had a great time, and now other members can get motivated to see some of this great world of ours.

Great pictures, Fred. I'm out on my first cruise of this year on Monday, but my topography won't be anywhere near as nice as this.

Show off ......... Now what are we suppost to do....? :poke:

Seriously. It looks like a life time memory. Beautiful.

With a little creativity you'd be surprised how well your pics turn out. One of my nicest pics was just a sunrise shot off the balcony.
