    Power steering double coupling repair

I had to repair the both the upper and lower couplers. Got a kit for the lower one but I needed to replace the rag joint in the upper coupler. The NOS parts out there were very expensive so I made my own using a hockey puck with metal sleeves for the allan bolts to counter sink into. Works OK...

'66 300 Rag Joint. "am I the crazy one?"

My 69 CHP Polara only had the rag joint - manual steering The other Polara I had and my current one only have the coupler - both power steering. Not saying that is the difference, just that the cars (all 69 Polara) I have were that way. Alan

Did you replace the rag joint on your column? Old, dry rubber is a catastrophic failure waiting to happen.

I need the steering coupler (RAG JOINT) for a 65 Dodge Custom 880. Is there a modern replacement or a part that will interchange with it?

'66 300 Rag Joint. "am I the crazy one?"

...they will not become quite as much of a safety concern as that material might be if it had to do with the steering of the vehicle. The rag joint materials also have some noise/vibration absorption properties, as well as being forgiving for slight mis-alignments, too. Just some thoughts, CBODY67

...a salvage yard column and clean that up. That way you would have the correct part for your application. Some applications have both a rag joint and u-joints. The rag joint us usually needed because it serves as a shock reducer so you do not break something in the gear or the column. If...

    part time problem

Check the steering column just above the steering gear. The catching is a classic symptom of a failing rag joint. Dave

...to be removed in the car. They probably just pulled the column and serviced it out of the car. My 69 didn't have the coupler along with the rag joint and I found it easy to take apart out of the car. This is the type of project where I see someone fighting an hour where they could have...

1966 300 power to manual steering

...have seen them on highway pursuit CHP cars and a handful of strip model 65/66 furys. The columns may be the same, but the colum shaft after rag joint will differ for manual box. I believe shaft will be longer, becuase manual box is shorter. A 68 or later box will work, but bolts upto colum in...

    Making this Polara mine....

...I've been doing little things to it over the past weeks such as cleaning up some old or janky wiring, fixing the horn and replacing the rag joint, replaced the old and dried out washer hoses, and replaced the coil and rotor. I still have some plugs and oil to change and she should be ready to...

    1966 Polara Horn Not Working

...then this is the trouble. I would still pull the steering wheel to clean and lube the plate discussed by @traintech55. Here's a couple of pictures of the broken wire I had and my fix. It's not factory but won't be seen since there's a cover for the rag joint. Good luck finding the solution.

    65 Dodge alignment specs.

Hey Dan, Not that I noticed a difference when I installed it....but wondering if the billet rag joint I installed has anything to do with your "twitchiness"? The old style rubber may absorb that where the metal will not........just a thought???

    66 fury steering questions

The car came with a new column as the original was busted. Has anyone replaced one with a after market? Mine is a CPP brand with the 1" DD end looking to adapt to fit. Should I look for a rag joint or just use u joints on each end with a solid shaft?
