Issues with cam bearings and clearances. Cam will not fit.

...my own cam install tool. Built several engines over the years and never had a problem so long as the cam was on size and straight. Yes, I have a lathe in my shop to check that sort of thing and it surprised me at how many new cams had .005" run out or more! Usually the bearing journals were fine.

Issues with cam bearings and clearances. Cam will not fit.

Yep standard affair with big blocks, 99% of the time the cams wont fit. I was a machinist from the mid 80's so it isn't a new issue or a case of " The bearings these days are no good". Check that your cam is straight is a good idea. We would use a bearing scraper to slowly take out the high...

    Engine oil

Flat tappet cams need zinc and phosphorus among other things, there are several oils that supply them, valvoline and mobile make "classic car" and "hot rod" and " older car" branded oils, as do the performance oil manufacturers, driven, joe gibbs, amsoil, schaeffer, lucas, etc. Stick with the...

    Cam Concerns 68 Polara w 383

Nobody ever suspected that some cam vendors were using a common Chevy lobe in their cams for other brands, until Hughes Performance made a big deal of that when they came out with "Chrysler cams with Chrysler lobes" in the 1990s. After they had introduced their "Quench Dome Pistons" ( to...

    Cam Concerns 68 Polara w 383

Give Oregon cams a try. They use mopar cores and the price is right. I've used them for quite a few builds and have never had a problem.

Yessir I’m in the process of cleaning it up, it’s VERY greasy. I took the valve covers off as well, all very clean. I just got a new valley pan and an edelbrock performer intake to throw on it, gonna degrease and vacuum as I go!

    Journey Begins 67' Fury

...it's was just for my notes for this. Well if I have to rebuild anyone got any thoughts on what to do? I'd like to throw in some aggressive-ish cams to get that rumble idle. Stroker? I was kind of expecting this honestly, if it sat for 30 years then there was a reason. Any engine builders...

    440 TNT rebuild

...every so often. Aim for a 268/284/.475" lift cam, like the 440HP hydraulic or the 284/284/,475" cam of the '68 426 Street HEMI. All hydraulic cams so you can enjoy more time driving with less time wrenching. These cams will work best with a static CR of 10.0:1 . One real advantage of a...

    Cam Concerns 68 Polara w 383

Lunati is now part of the Edelbrock Group, which includes Comp Cams. BTAIM With these larger holding companies buying brands, you never know how things will end up. Not unlike Holley buying MSD and "hos many" EFI brands? By the time these things settle-out and such, many of us will be in the...

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Hello sir, wow what's the chances of you sending me a page link to a cam I have been researching on big coincidence! Appreciate the advice. The head work I can put into practice, maybe on a junk set of heads and practice on those. But that cam does look enticing indeed, what would be the...

    Cam Concerns 68 Polara w 383

Comp Cams broke with their asymmetrical lobe shapes in the 1990s, quick opening and slow closing, so more area under the lift curve. I was surprised to find that Lunati had similar lobes about 5 yrs ago. I have one of the first 268HE cams they made back then. I put it into a 440 block and...

    Cam Concerns 68 Polara w 383

Comp still owns Lunati from what I understand. They'll definitely know about the Lunati Voodoo line of cams. The 256 cam should work about us well with your lower compression G code 383. Lots of guys have put higher profile/rumpier cams in lower compression 383's and them seem to work pretty...

Turn Signal Cam Replacement - 1965 Sport Fury

...DL-6123, or from Standard Ignition as № TW-78C. There used to be a guy out of Illinois, name of Koldos, who made the planet's best replacement cams for the '62-'67 turn signal switch. Much better plastic material than original or any of the aftermarket ones, careful attention to detail...

    BBD - 2 barrel - rebuild/replace - Need suggestions

...quite similar. I have a perfect cam for the Performer RPM, though its not installed in anything just now. I don't think you should change cams just to correct a carburetor issue at present, so I'll sign off. MoPar stock cams were well designed for their machines. I NEED to replace what's...
