1964 Imperial tapered axle and drum replacement

I swapped a complete 68 Chrysler axle into my 61 Plymouth. Got upgraded brakes and serviceability in the process. It was a simple bolt in swap. Find a late model axle with the same/close width as your current axle.

Your progress is amazing. You started after I did on Virgil and you've just surpassed where I'm trying to get to......

So I bought this one today.

I think I got spoiled Matt. My last couple projects were southern and NW vehicles that came apart with ease. No chisels or fire wrench's required. Not like Virgil.... Never again. :wideyed:

Why is my 64 Imperial so difficult?

First...... Forget about any of the chain auto parts stores. Their only good for oil, filters, polish etc. This site is your best source for parts and advise. Get a original FSM, and parts book. They can be a little pricy but well worth the cost. Try rock auto, online. They offer every level...

This is more like following a automotive fine art thread then a restoration thread. Some of pictures you've posted are good enough to be framed and hung in a gallery..... or man cave. Hey Julian....... Have some made into posters and sell them to help off set the costs.......! :D:)

You just never know what you’ll find

Long ago my buddy, who was heavy into 57 Fords, put this together. Cut from a heavily rusted 57 Fairlane and smeared with filler and using used and reproduction stuff. Folks would see it and comment that he must have been crazy to cut up such a nice car. We always got a chuckle out of that and...

    My new ‘64 Crown Coupe

Ya know...... Back in the day I drove several Mopars with a single res master cylinder and never had one fail. All this talk about converting to a dual res master cylinder seem like a unnecessary effort on a car that will see limited use. I plan on using a good quality new single res cylinder...

What weight oil are you using in your imperial?

Not a Imperial, but I have service records back to new for my 67 383. It's had preminum 10w40 every 3000 miles since the first oil change at 1000 miles. I've been using Valvoline 10W40 "hi-mileage" in the two oil changes I've done. The car had 86K miles when I got it, now has 87500 plus miles.
