    What describes a 300

Definitely fair here. I had a '68 300, mostly stock it ran low 16's. It was fun and a great cruiser but would definitely never call it a hot rod in the classical sense of the term. I've heard from multiple people that have owned them that the street Hemis definitely required more maintenance...

    413 Backfires

Maybe recheck initial and total timing as well. It can't hurt.

    Rod bearings

If the rod journal is scored, you're fighting a losing battle. You could try polishing it yourself but it probably needs to be ground 10 thou at this point. The 440 source kits are a good value for the money, they have everything and are already balanced. Just bore and hone the block...

    Stock oil pan

Agree, don't worry about it unless you're racing it or routinely taking it to higher engine speeds.

Smokes from air cleaner pan ?

The high rvp ethanol based fuels that we get in the winter can lead to vapor lock issues with carbureted vehicles. It's boiling the fuel out of the carburetor when you shut it off- the carb is empty when you try starting it again later and it won't run until the mechanical fuel pump fills the...

How many psi for compression test 318)

If it hasn't been run in a long time it likely had rust on multiple cylinders, this is totally normal for vehicles in storage. I'd run it and get it warm first before doing the compression check. If the numbers are still as bad as what you just showed it could use rings at a minimum, but I'd...

    Speedo Pinion

I had to do this as well. I swapped the rearend in my '68, went from 4.30's to 4.10's with a 30" tall tire. I bought the correct gear based on the Brewer's chart (36) , and when I put it in the speedometer still wasn't right. I had to go up 2 teeth to get it to read correctly and match the GPS...

    Mixing brands?

I've had a variety of stuff, lean towards mopars but I can appreciate many different types of oddball cars. Mainstream like a 1st gen Camaro or fastback Mustang doesn't do much for me but I love '63 Galaxies, suicide door Lincolns, 65-68 Impalas, '65 Bonnevilles, Wildcats, etc. My daily driver...

    What octane fuel?

Worth mentioning, even though most musclecar era stuff is listed as 10:1 compression, it rarely is ever close to that in the real world due to manufacturing tolerances on the combustion chamber size and deck heights. There are many things that can be done to enable lower octane fuel. Loose...

    1967 RB 440 - TDC finding issue

Glad it's fixed! Was it 180* out or just a little out?

    Thinking about a stroker

Agree on using the 400 block to start with, 4.25 stroke with 2.2 BBC rod journals fits a stock internal pickup no problem.

68 fury convertible Looking for leafspring front and rear mounts.

AREngineering makes C body front spring hangers, I have a pair on my Fury. I bought mine through Mancini.

How many psi for compression test 318)

It depends on your driving style and how much you’re going to use it in traffic, honestly. I've had lots of vehicles with 4 wheel drums, and for normal light cruising they were fine, same for single instance panic stops. Drums don't dissipate heat as well as discs do though, so repeated hard...

How many psi for compression test 318)

I have Wilwoods front and rear on mine but I don't think I'd suggest them for a street only, daily driver type car. There aren't many good disc brake options for C bodies. Leed has a kit that from what I hear works ok, but trying to use OEM parts right now is a bit of a pain - it's hard to get...

    Lifter noise at start up

On the ADBV topic, I've had issues with the anti-drainback valves in Fram filters on various big blocks. I use Wix now and have had good luck with them.

    Cam choice

If you go with a flat tappet I'd definitely have your engine builder break in the motor before installing it in the car. I've heard of lots of horror stories with modern flat tappets getting wiped prematurely- that alone would probably sway me towards going hydraulic roller. Also agree that...

Anyone run an Edelbrock RPM Intake

I had a similar experience with the Performer RPM on a mild 440 (9:1, home ported heads, 509 MP cam advanced a few degrees, 750 Holley and headers), it worked great in my Charger with 4.30, 2.76, and 4.10 gears (I broke a bunch of rearends, lol) with a 4 speed. That's a nice running Coronet...

    1967 RB 440 - TDC finding issue

It can be either TDC of the compression OR exhaust stroke. Like mentioned, it will be 0* provided the balancer hub hasn't slipped - this occasionally happens.
