WANTED C-3634 Tool for Steering Gear Nut

Yeah I took a hammer and drift to the other nut and after like two taps of the hammer I NOPED my way right to eBay and was able to find that socket, just can't find the one for the steering column side. I have a hook style spanner wrench that I'll try to put some oomph into but welding key stock...

WANTED C-3634 Tool for Steering Gear Nut

Hey all, I'm looking for this tool for my 1964 Newport steering gear rebuild. Before I cobble something together I thought I'd see if someone has one sitting in a box somewhere. It's a large (3.75") spanner socket, similar to some 4WD hub sockets. I'm located in Metro Detroit but happy to have...

    I'm doing a video series on rebuilding my 1964 Newport's 361!

Haha I had no idea what I was in for either. The car was a bit of an impulse buy and then I started working on it and realized what a weird car they are. Ball and trunnion rebuilds, taper axle rear ends, NO ONE has body parts for them, the list goes on. Thanks for the support! Obviously...

And here's removing the engine, next few videos to come out are on engine disassembly and measuring.

    I'm doing a video series on rebuilding my 1964 Newport's 361!

Hey y'all, I bought this car about five years ago and I just keep putting miles on it. It's really stolen my heart. After doing a front end rebuild, Scarebird disc brake conversion, and some other regular maintenance I figured it was finally time to show the powertrain the love and rebuild the...

Dual Diaphragm booster for 1964 Chrysler (smaller firewall bolt pattern)

Ross and others have covered this but I'll throw my two cents in to say that you definitely need the correct booster. Part of the reason is because disc brakes require higher forces. Drum brakes are somewhat self-energizing because as the leading edge of the shoe contacts the drum it gets wedged...

Dual Diaphragm booster for 1964 Chrysler (smaller firewall bolt pattern)

I gave Dewey a ring (friendly guy!) and while he didn't have part numbers on hand he said that two boosters fit. The rare and desirable Bendix unit that people swap into B-bodies and the mid 70s Midland unit (74-78 big Chryslers). So that narrows the search a bit but not a lot, I still can't...

Dual Diaphragm booster for 1964 Chrysler (smaller firewall bolt pattern)

Dave, Awesome! Just the info I was looking for. I think I have boosters around here for '67s and '69s, just didn't quite go old enough. I'll take a quick look around for that Bendix one but yeah probably gonna have to go right to Dewey for it. Thanks!

Dual Diaphragm booster for 1964 Chrysler (smaller firewall bolt pattern)

Hey all I did the Scarebird conversion on my 1964 Chrysler a few years back but I've never been able to get a dual diaphragm booster in there for the pedal feel that I want. I've ordered 2 or 3 but nothing fits right. My early car (and all pre 65, I assume) has a skinnier and more rectangular...

    For Sale 1964 Chrysler Newport - $4000obo - Michigan

Hey I know your car as well! Someone said they saw a car "just like mine" and I didn't have the heart to tell them they were like a decade apart. But it's a cool ride for sure.

    For Sale 1964 Chrysler Newport - $4000obo - Michigan

Car is located in Metro Detroit area, Michigan. Reluctantly listing to make time for other projects. I've had a lot of fun with this car. It's been an intermittent daily during summer months and has been a great and reliable driver for me. The car has a 361 B engine (big block), push button...

scarebird disk brake conversion on 1964 880

Hey guys, To anyone who did a Scarebird swap (preferably on a <64), what dual diaphragm booster did you use? Looks like there are a few part numbers off of Imperials in the late 60s. But RockAuto lists some as single diaphragm that sure look like duals and I'm not sure if some will have a...

    Let's see your air compressors

Here's one of mine. It's a single cylinder Gardner Denver I picked up on craigslist recently for $250. It has a brand new 5hp motor and the tank dates from 1957.

Reinstalling axle in 8.75 - driver's side axle goes too far in?

Now correct me if I'm wrong... but this is a Sure Grip right?! I thought for sure it would be an open diff but this is a very pleasant surprise. My base model Newport has some secrets yet.

Reinstalling axle in 8.75 - driver's side axle goes too far in?

Yep this little guy was just hanging out in the bottom of the case. At least it's an easy fix. And between taking it out and putting it in I think I can skip the gym today!

Reinstalling axle in 8.75 - driver's side axle goes too far in?

Carl, thanks for the picture. I couldn't find a good exploded view. I bet that's exactly what it is, looks like the thing is coming apart. I didn't switch to Greens, some sources told me that it wasn't an option on pre-65 tapered axles.

scarebird disk brake conversion on 1964 880

sczuylevch, I believe upgrading the master cylinder isn't optional. I don't know what the diameter of the stock drum master is but the calipers are designed for a master of just over an inch, maybe 1.125". I suspect you'll have to upgrade the master to the '67-'68 one. There's also an issue of...

Reinstalling axle in 8.75 - driver's side axle goes too far in?

I'm still trundling along on the rear wheel bearings on my 1964 Newport. There's light at the end of the tunnel! I have new bearings pressed onto the axles and races in hand. However, when I slide in the driver's side axle it seems to drop in too far. The race/cup sits 0.075"-0.100" inboard of...

scarebird disk brake conversion on 1964 880

Huh, my MC doesn't seem to have nearly enough adjustment. I got an A1 Cardone 503520 off a 1968 Fury. Do you happen to recall which MC you went with? Edit: Just double checked the Scarebird instructions and they recommend the '67-'68 master cylinder. I just assumed that included the booster...
