    Maybe your vacuum advance was on a full time vacuum port and now it is on a timed port, making the idle timing lower that it was, causing it to have less idle torque. My $.02

    From personal experience with my 2 '66 Monacos (1 4 door 383 and my current 2 door 440), Getting the motor out from the trans is not hard, but mating the engine to the trans going back in is a PITA. I will always pull both together. (My $.02)

    The '66 CAP also had a green vacuum diverter that messed with the vacuum advance, one port was manifold vacuum, one has ported vacuum and the 3rs went to the distributor. California is so special, even in '66 they put clog devices on our cars.
