i did just that, i didn't want to say that in case someone had a better idea.

if the dash pad is off, just grind down the rivets flush from the back side. a little help with a punch and they will pop right out. can't help with the installation of new.

keep in mind that the process of welding creates rust.

you need something to convert the rust in the tank or any water in your fuel will cause the rust to return.

it seems like you could find a local ( farm machinery/construction) equipment place that could rebuild them. they are just hydraulic cylinders on a smaller scale.

i use simple green to clean many things. i haven't had any issues with it.
