A Wrapup of Goodbye and Good Riddance

Good to follow that train of thought. Not that the stock brakes are the be all end all, but taking brakes from same size or bigger/heavier car will improve braking. Just because they are disc brakes does not make them better as seen from OP's situation. I think in most cases these would be...

A Wrapup of Goodbye and Good Riddance

This is the Disc-O-Tech article from Erhernberg (spelling). He has rehashed this time and time again. It is a great set-up for a A,B,or E body, does not really apply to C bodies, parts do not interchange.

Is this an OK way to reinforce a front sub-frame?

Sealer all the way around the welded plate, right on the weld. The silicone-latex paintable caulk they sell in hardware stores is perfect, unless you want to spend 3 times as much on actual seam sealer.

How necessary is brake swedging for these hubs+drums?

It's a assembly like thing. As long as your hub register is snug/good new drum your golden. Picture in your mind assembly line worker. Grabs drum and hub as one unit with bearings already installed and greased from previous process. Slips it onto brake assembled spindle with lower ball joint...

Tech tip: How to align ur own suspension at home

It's a bias tire with belts. Overlapping angled layers (bias plies) with puncture protective belts running around circumference. So they reduced the number of plies to reduce internal heat produced by the carcass of the tire to improve fuel mileage, not using energy of the vehicle to make heat...

Tech tip: How to align ur own suspension at home

Now if I could get some 1950s oil to go with shitty bias tires, and 1930s friction shocks. Wow I could have a car that would be safe to drive at 45 mph, that's exciting. I mean come on into the 21st century. I'm a old guy at this point but using 80 year old tech on your car is just....... I...

Tech tip: How to align ur own suspension at home

Factory specs are for Bias ply tires. If your still running bias tires....... well conversation is over before it began.

Tech tip: How to align ur own suspension at home

I've used the string and jack stands for years. Yes you have to drive and check, that's the fun part. I guess the 30° is better, but without the turntables lock is the best reference I got. Trick with toe plates is making it even front to back, and tire interference or inflation. Thinking that...

1964 New Yorker gets 1978 Cordoba 11.75-disc brakes.

Yes, I think, FWTW, if you look at newer cars/trucks that were designed with the better/wider/ stiffer low profile tires available now, you see the control arms are spaced further apart/spindle is really tall. Obviously this would involve huge alterations to our cars. I think a taller spindle...

1964 New Yorker gets 1978 Cordoba 11.75-disc brakes.

Be careful of the drum master cylinder with disc brakes. Disc use fluid as pad wears, it will drain the reservoir dry. The drums brakes return all the fluid with springs and adjuster takes up clearance. Glad it worked. I put '75 Cordoba front brakes on my '68 Charger. Everyone says they are too...

65 Fury Lower control arm rebuilt/Stiffener?

I believe they are a good upgrade to stock lower arms. You can even tighten the pivot up in the arm by cutting one side of bump stop loose and squeezing the sides tighter on pivot. It's kinda like boxing the rear arms on a GM A body. I'm sure they were adequate in 1960 whatever but tires...

Low rolling resistance tires (LRR), my experience

I call B.S. on this. I'll wager they rewrote tire specs somewhere and upped the normal recommended pressure thus lower rolling resistance. Now marketing kicks in and promotes this at a higher price all the while hiding the math that does not add up. This is new business practice 101. Can't...

Will an electric impact wrench give satisfactory results vs air wrench?

I'm getting a 3/4" Milwaukee. Mainly because my son has a bunch of it and the packs run across the different tools. I need a 3/4" for the lug nuts on the truck. I have a 1" extended anvil impact for truck wheels but dragging those hoses out and then anything below 45° it seems to freeze the gun...

Any companies out there that can re line disc brake pads?

Any brake relining outfit can do them. If they can't or don't want to well that's on them. You can still get truck brakes relined if your cores are not rotten for all the weird brake setups though out the years. The only thing I have seen eat old drums and rotors is the rust that gets rubbed off...

    Tire balancing question

No, no, no, go look at the chart and figure out what you or your car did wrong. It's not the tire. No better feeling than riding on brand new tires. This quickly fades to I hope they don't wear out fast and don't do anything weird.

    Tire balancing question

Not to mention folding the tire under the car because the Ackerman angles are variable as you turn the wheel. The rear end also wallows around trying to stay under the car with 10, 1 1/4" bushing at multiple angles and travel arcs.
