Living with my Sniper fuel injected 78 NYB

Car runs fine. Gas mileage kind of sucks because I like goosing it every now and then. About 8-9 mpg in the city. Highway… I get at least double at 70mph.

Monitor found a home: After having it the glove box, I didn’t like that I had to open it to see the monitor and then remember to close it to avoid the drain on the battery. So I propped it up between the A/C vent under the glove box and my aftermarket cup holder And the glove box door...

Time to polish the wheels and whiten the white walls. Mothers for the wheels and Bleach White for the whitewalls. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of my roadrunner in the wheel. Even whitened that little strip in the front bumper. Took several passes with some fine steel...

Living with my Sniper fuel injected 78 NYB

As I’ve come to enjoy the reliability of my new sniper, I’m also enjoying dialing it in. One thing I did recently was change the linkage to progressive opening of the throttles. The front two open first followed by the rear at about 30% throttle (as measured by the sniper itself) picked up...

Living with my Sniper fuel injected 78 NYB

Today I reworked the cruise control and throttle cables for smoother operation. Took a small crowbar to it to move it about 1/4 outboard for better alignment. Cruise now engages very positively and works perfectly. However, the set button records the speed that is set but does not activate the...

Living with my Sniper fuel injected 78 NYB

It’s been almost a year since it was installed so I thought I’d start a separate thread as to how this radical change (upgrade?) is going. The good: Starts every frogging time Runs a little smoother and cooler Gas mileage about the same. No more electronic lean burn ignition A lot of things...

    Weather strip, work or not?

I ended up using outer and inner door/window channel seals from a 1978 El Camino got my NYB. Long enough to cut down and a fairly good match on the profile.

    78 sunroof Newport ? ever seen 1 ?

I have one of the 779….. never knew the breakdown. Thanks. And…. No, I don’t remember seeing a Newport with it. It was an expensive option as I recall.

Bit of QC today …. While I wait on some minor parts. Didn’t like the way the O2 sensor was hitting the old catalytic converter heat shield. So I removed the heat shield to give it a bit more room. May rotate it a bit down for more clearance but still keep at least 10 degree angle (up per...
