    Engine build

I used a stock oil pan. My engine builder did a little hammer work to the pan. Use a windage tray. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Make sure you have a good cooling system as stroked engines tend to produce more heat.

    Engine build

It would be helpful to post what the Edelbrock 2806 upper end kit consists of for lazy folks like me that don't want to go and look it up. My additional comments are based on my ownership of a '68 Sport Fury with a 520" pump gas stroker. Your compression ratio is to high for pump gas. Keep in...

    best carburetor

Perhaps your carb needs a rebuild. I run Edelbrock carbs on my cars and love them. Sometimes if the car sits for long periods of time the crappy gas available today can cause problems.

    Cam choice

Ben, What is the compression going to be? What kind of head work are you having done? What rear gear will you be running? My initial thoughts are that a flat tappet cam is fine for your application. Does your engine builder understand what your car weighs? Consider having Dwayne Porter do...

Alternatively, you can knock the bushings out and put a 4” bolt with washers through the holes.

    Transmission Fluid

Per my transmission rebuilder, do NOT use type F. It looses viscosity in high temperature conditions. He recommends using Dextron 6 synthetic transmission fluid. I think that using type F is what caused the transmission to burn up in my yellow '68 Sport Fury.

    Where is the fuel going??

If there’s gas in the oil, would you will see by the reading on the dipstick being over full, then it’s time for a new fuel pump. I would also check all the rubber hoses in the fuel line and make sure none of those are leaking. If they are old, replaced them with fuel injection, rated fuel hose...

Reconditioned 452 heads. What upgrades should I consider?

452's are not a good option, nor are the 440 source heads as they are open chamber heads and he has closed chamber heads. Open chamber big block heads started in 1968 with the 906 heads.

Reconditioned 452 heads. What upgrades should I consider?

A 1966 383 including 383-4bbl cars had 516 heads, which had 1.60 exhaust valves. Weren’t the 516 and 915 heads closed chamber vs 906, 452 & later heads open chamber and therefore they use different pistons? It’s been a longtime since I thought about the head differences. I think the best...

    What rear gear???

My ‘68 Sport Fury with a 520” stroker, 3.73 rear gear and G70/15 bias ply tires, which are 27.5” in diameter is not a long distance highway car. At 65 mph she is at 3500 rpm, 2500 rpm at 50 mph. I think that you would be happy with a 3.23 rear gear but the diameter of the tire that you use is an...

Puddles of gas on my intake manifold

Are your rubber fuel lines fuel injection rated? If not, I recommend switching over as today’s gasoline will eat away at the standard rubber fuel line hose.

    carb mounting gasket

The open plenum gasket will be fine. Consider getting a thicker gasket/spacer if you have the hood clearance as it will help reduce vapor lock conditions.

Trying to find what transmission is in my 1972 Dodge Polara?

I have had two 727 transmissions rebuilt recently by a reputable transmission shop that also drag races vintage nitro funny cars. He recommends a cast pan and Dextron 6 transmission fluid. He told me that the type F transmission fluid does not provide adequate lubrication in high temperatures...
