    Teach Me about Power Steering

    1967. I was using type F.

    Teach Me about Power Steering

Maybe I don’t have a leak any more. Maybe I am just roaming out the top because (yes, I’ll admit) I was using ATF. Flushing.... best way?

    Teach Me about Power Steering

So a specific recommendation for Lucas or a general pointer to specifically-labeled power steering fluid is what I think I read there, right?

    Teach Me about Power Steering

Is there a correct power steering fluid other than “power steering fluid?” I’m guessing that ATF is a no-no.

    Teach Me about Power Steering

My Imperial has always had a bit of a leaky power steering system. I replaced a hose, but it still leaks. Now, after I’ve driven it a bit, it doesn’t have much power at idle (like when parking) and makes noise. The reservoir is low-ish but not low. It’s over the vanes in the pump and just needs...

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

A perfect example of what I love about discussion forums. The topic at hand has wandered from the original topic. Please, continue!

    Tortion Bars

Sorry to hear that it snapped. You might now have to drill it out and use a thread extractor. More pb blaster! Also, if I recall correctly, the FSM calls for adjusting with the car on the ground. Measure the ride height at two given points, adjust, bounce the car up and down to settle the...

Is Stainless Sleeving of Brake Cylinders Worthwhile

How often do you drive it? Is it a daily driver? If so, regular cylinders won't be "forever" but should last a long time. If not, they won't be continually wiped with brake fluid and may pit or rust sooner. You didn't say what the price difference is. Can you afford it? Have you spent a bunch...

Got it. I'll look when I get the car back from paint.

Haven't the foggiest idea. What are offset shackles?

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

If I can measure the springs, I'm just gonna buy everything at once and do it. New u bolts, bushings, everything. Most of the concern for removing parts without breakage was if I had to remove a spring to measure it.

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

I think old guys suggestion about measuring and arithmetic is the way to go. It lets me get springs without involving twice.

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

Fair to say that the consensus is that it's a full day but still a one day job?

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

I'm inclined to think the air shocks have been on my car since the hitch was welded on upwards of 30 years ago. So I think they've been there, under load, for a long time.

You're a freaking genius! Why didn't I think of that!

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

Yep. I'm not lacking for tools. I have a big air compressor, impact guns, breaker bars, torque wrenches, 6-ton jack stands, etc. Just no garage or level driveway that the car will fit in.

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

Ahh yes, I remember the universal umbrage at air shocks! I wouldn't say I have my "heart set" on them. After discussing it a while back here and 440Sled chimed in about how he runs high pressures with no problems, I'm more just unconcerned, and they're a convenient stop-gap. But I'll take the...

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

As some may recall, I live in a beach town and don't have a place that I can leave my car apart and immobile. Therefore, I can only do limited projects that can be started and finished in a day. My rear springs sag a lot. A previous owner put on air shocks, but they leak air, so sag out after a...
