    Dubious Trunk Repairs on ‘66

cool, it looks like someone just "reapplied" whatever it was they applied to the same areas, and added some mat/cloth for reinforcement. If I was going to restore this car I'd probably rip it all out and see what it looks like, but I'm just gonna redo the repair and call it good.

    Dubious Trunk Repairs on ‘66

Probably a putty knife if I had to guess. I believe this car has had condensation issues for a LONG time based on surface rust on lots of the interior metal trim, and the PO replacing the carpet when he bought it in 2020 due to it being “wet.” I’ve not sorted out the problem yet, but I believe...

    Dubious Trunk Repairs on ‘66

I had already guessed by the sloppily applied and grossly over-sprayed truck bed liner that there were some previous repairs made to the trunk at some point in the past. After this winters bout with way too much condensation, both in the cabin and in the trunk, I decided that on a nice warm...

    Trim clips

Interesting! My 66 Newport 2 dr doesn't have that piece of trim at all, just the cat whisker, which does have a bit of stainless steel. Sorry for the confusion.

    66 Chrysler Newport

Congratulations on your new ride! Post some photos please, and don't forget to paint the "border" of your letters flat black after you polish the aluminum! Here's my '66 Newport.

Boy, I'm a believer in claying the car now!

I've got a synthetic clay "bar" and I just clean it real good with Dawn when it gets dirty. Done 4 vehicles so far and ready for a 5th. Then I'll probably replace it.

    Aluminum prep

Wire wheel brush on a drill, brake cleaner, maybe Black Magic Bleche-white and a stiff toothbrush.

Is there a source for a can of aerosol spray paint with correct paint (1967 Forest green metalic) ?

do you just bring them a part (say the glove box) and they scan it, or did you drive there and they come out to your car with some tool?

    65-66 hood latch adjustment

The rubber bumpers look to be replaced within the last five years, so that was fine. I ended up moving the hood latch upwards about an eighth of an inch, and that seem to take some of the strain off of the latch, having to go down so far. Working good now. Minimal effort required to latch the...

    65-66 hood latch adjustment

    hmmm . . . . I hadn't thought about the rubber baby buggy bumpers . . . I'll give them a look and see what I can see - thanks!

    65-66 hood latch adjustment

The hood on my '66 Newport requires a healthy slam to close and creates a loud POP when opening. I'm thinking the adjustment is just a "little" bit off, but I can't figure out what to tweak. Any tips? If you mention "read the FSM," please include "book, chapter, verse" so I can find it...

    Firewall rustout

Thank you for the info. The car is actually from Philly, and spent most of it's life near there, then later in Indiana, South Carolina, and then about 3 years ago it moved to Washington State. Everything got cleaned out 4 or so years ago when the car was painted, but who knows how much debris...

    Firewall rustout

Thank you! To clarify, the water is draining out into the engine compartment before it can reach the proper drain holes down where the cowl vents fresh air into the passenger compartment. I had the trim panels and vent doors off today, vacuumed out all of the debris and had Mrs. darth_linux...

    Firewall rustout

Hi, on my '66 Newport, the passenger side of the cowl doesn't drain below the car like it should, it drains into the engine compartment, due to that area being rusted out. See photo below. Is this a structural concern, or more of just an annoyance? Thanks.

65-66 Newport 2 door C Pillar chrome trim detail

Anyone have a picture of a 65-66 Newport 2 Door NOS or survivor C pillar trim piece showing which portions are painted black? I know the outer two horizontal portions are painted, but what about the center section? All black? Black lower portions and chrome raised portions? All chrome? thanks!
