906 is a better flowing design with larger exhaust valve and better ports. It is open chamber where 516 is closed but the actual difference in compression ratio is usually much smaller than people think

My 65 heads are 516's. The seller was not sure what the heads were on the 66. Whats the difference between the 906 and 516? The valve size?

Fwiw I have what should be bolt on ready 906 heads that I'd sell for about what those cores are. Unclear if you meant they are ready to run or rebuildable cores. Cores have about $5 value honestly.

This is good info, but if i were the OP I would check both blocks to confirm. Im almost certain that i have a '66 block with those bosses. Gonna have to look tho...

    sealing the timing chain cover

If you wait for it to dry then it will be to think to fit in there. You have an unknown surprise when you try to install the timing cover with that new gasket. You see those dowel pins in the block that locate the timing cover? Yeah it will be tight going on. Don't remove the dowel pins or...

I agree, but with an aggressive cam you might feel it at an idle. It is worth looking into. He just needs to do what you said about checking it.

    Mystery brake issue.

You could try? But if you have a distribution block, I would say remove it and flush it with some brakleen. If you have a proportioning valve, there is a reset tool you can buy for a few bucks or you can use a small screwdriver. Not sure what you have, but you're most likely looking at having to...

    Side window adhesive

One of the unexpected things I like about the Summit warehouse sales floor is the section of "supporting items" they have. I'm close to the Arlington, TX location and walked the floor looking at all of the stuff that was on the floor, one day we were there for a car show. I expected the lubes...

    Question on oil singers

I would highly suspect that ALL engines had oil slingers/deflectors at one time or another. Advances in timing cover seal designs and such may have made them a bit obsolete in some cases. Especially the introduction of the "double-lip" seal. Use of the slinger/deflector has NOTHING to do with...

Thank you After posting I looked up generic ways to do that and that’s exactly what they said to use a rubber tape Just came back from Summit Racing. I live near Akron Ohio Gotta roll that rubber tape That makes perfect sense the way that it is installed One says to use kerosene to lube that...

A broken motor mount, as in the LH side, will not cause any difference in idle feel, but as soon as you throttle into the motor from idle, the rear a/c line will contact the inner hood structure. When you let of the gas when that happens, THEN you'll feel a "bump" as the engine settles back...

To me, for core heads, that amount sounds a bit expensive. No matter what. But I'm not aware of current market value of cast iron. No way to "shoestring" a core engine. It's going to need everything. CBODY67

So, what changed since it started to idle roughly? It was running good with a smoother idle and now it is shaking. Is it possible you have a broken mount. In the replies above there are some ideas on how to stiffen the mounts, maybe one is broken. If it is, it might not be that easy to detect...
