1971 Vg Valiant Wayfarer Ute.

Just picked up this old ute, it's all original with numbers matching engine, body, etc.

General Information

It's all original and in need of restoration. The body is a bit beat up but fairly solid.
These are quite rare nowadays, so the hard work and money will be worth it in the end.
Put some of the bolt-on panels on and got the engine started, run for a few seconds and then cut out, the carby will need looking at.
The last photo is of what it could end up looking like, some day...

Very cool. Unusual to see, for us Yanks. Was a ute commonly a second 'work' vehicle for an Australian household, "back in the day"..."dad's car"? Practical for a farmer: haul seed, feed, hay bales, fence posts, tractor parts, etc. It just seems it would be a bit cramped for a family of four...did families have a sedan too, usually? Phoenix, Commodore, etc.? Hope you don't mind my asking. Thanks

The ute was and still is a work vehicle primarily, many have one just because it's practical for hauling stuff when needed. Most households have a 2nd car in any case. The 4-door pick-ups have replaced the ute to a great extent, used for work, hauling and family.

Ok, that all makes sense. Thanks for the insights. Look forward to seeing that Valiant together again. I spent some time on my wagon today, thought I'd get a fuel issue fixed, but looks like it is going to take a bit more work. Oh well...that's why we buy them!
