Put a metric Hemi drivetrain in it....

Look how long the hood and front fender are on this car. I like the lines on this beast. Look at the monster New Yorker emblem on the hood!!!

You're on the right track, That long narrow engine bay is screaming for an inline six, huge puffed oil burner. No stacks, though, please...
 
We have at least one 47 coupe here in Finland (a California car originally). Looks like it has a similar front end.

This one is still a project, but I hope to see it running & driving this summer...

These were slightly facelifted prewar models that were pretty much unaltered until the 49s came out.
I like These a lot, the ones from 49-54 have considerably weaker design.
 
You'd have to leave the straight 8 in it.... You don't see any and it's so impressive to see that long engine when that long hood is open.
 
That car for sale is actually a 1949, what was called a First Series. The newly-styled (and uglier) Second Series are also called 1949.
