Not Mine

For anyone who's been lusting over GOLDMYN's pretty '68 NY'er:

Not sure how up to date postings are on this site. Some of these oddball car sale sites have listings that are a decade old. It can never hurt to try though. A friend of mine recently got a nice car off one, even though it took the seller almost a month to respond the first time.

Considering the name of the website, the price should be negotiable.

1968 Chrysler New Yorker - Haggle Me

Ah, Goldmyn, you got that console car. It was in IN back in 2017. The gauges on the console are the tell-tale ID for your car (and the console itself, too!). Pretty rare in a NY.
Did you keep the alum wheels on it?

Man this car would really be a killer with a B5 or B7 blue!

Generally, I'm not a big fan of white cars, but I love this car in white with the blue interior and no hat. I have a sad story (for me) about a blue one. If I have time, I'll tell it later this evening.

Your car has an interesting mix of options. Someone definitely ordered it, as you'd never find a car like that sitting on a lot in stock. I like to have power windows on all my cars, but there's a big advantage to buying a manual window car, and that being the door trim panels usually have never been removed, and therefore the water shields are still in place and there's no water damage to your panels. Most power window cars need motor repair at some point in time, at least on the driver door, and the jackass mechanics almost never re-install the water shields. Plus they usually do some damage to the panel itself while removing it. I still love your car, even with the crank windows.

the other thing i notice. Like my car, the car for sale only has the passenger-side headrest

That's very common. The pass side headrest was standard on anything with a reclining passenger seat in order to support your head if you recline the seat. The driver side headrest was an extra cost option and most dealers didn't order it, and probably most salesmen didn't even mention it to people who were ordering cars. The only cars you won't see pass side headrests on are bucket seat 1966 Chryslers and 1967 Imperial coupes, because the headrest is integral with the seat and the top of the seat actually extends. That all changed January 1st 1969, when all cars built from then on were required to have dual headrests.

Over the years I've missed out on quite a few cars for one reason or another, and this one still bugs me the most. This '68 New Yorker was on ebay back in 2007. I was the high bidder at the end of the auction, but it didn't meet the reserve. My max bid was around $3300 and bidding stopped around $2800. In my mind, high bidder should get first dibbs on any deals, but seconds after the auction ended someone from Sweden called the seller on the phone and made a deal. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up selling the car for less than I was willing to pay. The seller was out in the middle of nowhere, I think in Nebraska, and shipping was going to be a fortune, otherwise I would have bid more and maybe triggered the bidding to jump up to the reserve price. The car needed a full restoration and the roof was quite rusty under the vinyl top.

So why am I so salty about missing out on this one? Check out the last photo.

It's a bit tough to read, but yes that is signed by Ronni Sox. While Sox and Martin was sponsored by Chrysler, they would give them new cars ever year.

That used to be my car. I sold it to a buddy because I had too many projects at the time.

Was he the one selling it in '07 or did it change hands again?
No it was probably 12-15 years ago that I owned it. In fact I didn't even recognize it from the pictures until I saw the Ronnie Sox letter. I passed the letter on to my buddy.

I wish you had been the one selling it when it was on ebay. Shipping from Phoenix at that time would have only been about $700 and I would have had more $$ to throw at the car. The other thing that frosts me about it is that not too long after I lost out on it, just about anything you'd want for the car was on ebay for cheap money. All NOS stuff: grill, headlamp bezels, tail lamp bezels, even the big panel for between the tail lights. The price on the tail panel was a measly $75, and I think the grill was less than $150. The New Yorker may have needed a roof, as the rust under the vinyl was pretty bad by '07, but even that was covered, as there was a non-vinyl top Newport for sale near me for $800 with a very nice roof on it.

Speaking of cars that you owned. Was this wagon yours at one time? I spotted it in Desert Valley when I was out there in March.

Yup, that was mine too. Didn't know it wound up there. It was on Craigslist a while back and the guy said it had a couple bad cylinders but don't think it belongs in the bone yard.

When I saw it, it was close to the area with cars for sale, so I guess it still has a chance for someone to buy it whole, but I'm sure they want too much for it.
