Gee'z I love this forum, so helpful, and once again I need help from all you C Body lovers.
I'm in Oz and I only have a lowly plain white 1969 Fury 318, 4 door 727 auto ( known here in Oz in RHD form as a Dodge Phoenix) but every time I open up my garage doors I still drool looking at it !! and still a thrill to drive.
Boy I wish I had some of the Drive line and Body styles/options you States Wide guys are spoil't with!
Enough of that..... My question is,I want to fit an aftermarket under dash Aircon Kit.
With your help I want to short circuit lengthy ( EBay ) research/s and ask all the members for your advice. Any opinions on the best kit/deal/options/suppliers etc, and maybe with a heater etc.???
I note allready that most kits don't come with Air compressor mounting brackets or pulleys and this is probably the hardest part.
Maybe somebody has some second hand parts, all input will be a joy,
Hear from you'awll soon,
Rich

Good Morning Dick,
This one is probable going to be harder than pulling teeth. We have a company here in the states called Classic Auto Air. They make new kits to convert older vehicles, maybe they would be able to come up with something to help you out.

There is also one called Vintage Auto Air but they wont sell to me direct because they have an Aussie Agent who also wants a profit margin as well.

Well, it looks like you have three issues:

1) who are the makers of these systems
2) what system will fit in your car; and
3) who will ship to Australia

Seems like you have the 2 listed: Classic Auto Air Classic Auto Air - Air Conditioning & Heating for 70’s & Older Cars & Trucks. and Vintage Air Vintage Air - Inventors of Performance Air Conditioning - www.vintageair.com .

As for 2), I can all but guarantee you you're going to have to go with a universal fit for your '69 Fury. These companies aren't making a "sure fit" or whatever name they call their bolt in direct units. So go on their sites and see what is best for the car. As for which is a better system, I think you're going to find arguments for both of them.

As for 3, I have no idea. You'll have to do some searches. I know Summit Racing carries one or both of the systems and pretty sure they ship to Australia.

Have you seen these ones on E-bay ?

While you are going to have to use a universal type kit, unless you are really familiar with A/C systems, you might want to bypass the universal Ebay kits.

Places like Vintage Air don't sell direct to the public. If I wanted something of theirs, I would have to buy from a dealer too. Actually, if you have a dealer there, that's probably your first place to check. Dealing with someone in the same country is going to be a lot easier. A good dealer can point you in the right direction and save you time and money in the long run.

You are going to have to decide just how deep you want to go with this too. Some kits are meant to replace the entire HVAC system and some are just going to be an under the dash unit. I've seen some nice under dash units that look like the kind a dealer would have installed in your car back in the 60's/70's. Personally, I probably would do one of those.

There should be brackets for a 318 and if the company you are buying from doesn't carry them, find another. I see in the Vintage Air catalog, they have the brackets.

Well it may not look pretty, but I am sure it will do the job !!
I doubt it.
A single sized universal condensor. Will it fit?
Compressor. Most likely cheap Chinese Sanden clone. And what output? Enough for a 95 Honda Civic probably.
Again, clamped fittings? Guaranteed to leak.
Those brackets are too universal and flimsy.
Don't know about the hose. :p

I'm shocked at you. For shame. .
Looks like about $250.00 worth of Alibaba stuff.

Man. . . That's almost TOO universal. . .
Clamped fittings? Ummm. no.
And is that heater hose? :wideyed:

I don't know if that's heater hose or not, but those are hose clamps and I'm really hoping that those hose clamps are for the water hose connections. If not, run away from that supplier.

OH I am ashamed !! SO SO SO ASHAMED !!

That I will just sit here until I come to my senses.

I do totally agree that the E-Bay units (all of them) are nothing but a POS
and I do not think anything beats an original factor type system. I had an after market dealer installed AC system installed in my 1983 F250 and it sucked I HATED IT EVERY TIME I USED IT !!!.. Never again would I install an after market unit in my vehicle.

Let me know when I can get out of my time out corner........... :poke:
