People, you are missing a vital point.
His insistence on his absurd timing chain diagnosis and his other delusions.
I would not believe one word he says about his descriptions.
25 hundred.

Exactly, but really, a chebie guy that doesn't want to turn the engine because he thinks the steel timing chain will break on the little Mopar, BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Can someone please go look at this thing, replace the air cleaner, dump some gas in and crank that sucker over? If it is already toast, then it wouldn't matter anyway.

I still don't see 5k in getting it running. Worst case, anyone can find a running 440 for about a grand. I have less than $300 into my parts car, and it idles smooth. Replaced the battery, a few break lines, air cleaner, gas filter, plugs and oil change, blew out the gas line and VROOOM!

Whatever the cost, I'm looking forward to the new owner becoming a member here and sharing a detailed account of this car's resurrection.

I disagree. Due to the mouse piss, yer gonna hafta spend at least a grand on a new interior. If the engine is broken - as I suspect it is, because he tried to turn it over - (WTF does 3 inches mean ?!?), yer gonna spend another 2-3 grand on rebuilding the engine. Add in a new set of tires, new gas tank, etc., and yer gonna be close to, if not over $5000.

I made an offer on ebay for what I think the car is worth and now we will see what he says. In my eyes this car is only a $10 car with all the problems addressed and those are going to be expensive. As a flipper car I am sure he got into it cheap and is trying to make $10K off of it.

Update, he sent me a note saying he got the engine to turn almost 1 turn and then it stopped, and will keep trying. He said he would remove the valve covers and check for stuck valves. In my mind, I would just figure it will need an engine rebuild due to corroded cylinder bores. He said mice did not get into the interior, and there is only one slight tear in the headliner, not a hole, so I am thinking the interior might be OK. I think the estimate of $5K to get it running safely is about right, but that doesn't include your time to do it of course. If you have someone do the work, then you are well over $5K. I would not pluck the engine and replace it with a non numbers engine, since that would wreck the low mileage historical value of this time capsule. But I do expect mice to have gotten in everything else in that car. On a personal note, I found the seller being somewhat a wishful thinker, but seemingly pretty honest about what is going on. I told him my estimate of the value of the car to the right person would be about half his asking price and sent him a link to the value guide I have relied on in the past (the only one I have found reliable).

When I can ask the sellers of these delusional priced cars, I try to be very diplomatic and say, How did you arrive at your asking price.
The answer is almost always, I looked on ebay and it has the same 440 engine as a GTX that they want 50k for it so I am being very fair... :sFun_doh2:

I see it has the factory mudflaps on it.

That rare option drives the price up, do doubt.

(He's seen it on ebay.)

I am just amazed at how rough that underhood looks on that car for how nice the rest looks??? How did it get so rough up on the firewall, brake booster, shoot even the core support shows some surface rust where the rest of the car is very nice. The door hinges show rust and the trunk pan but that is about all I see? But that underhood!

Yeah, that unusual underhood rustiness always makes me suspicious, too.

I bought a flood car like that one time. Learned my lesson!

To be wise, you would just budget a total rebuild or maybe already have another motor to drop in.

And if it's been flooded as some point, the tranny might also be shot. (Or maybe not.)

Well it did not take him long to turn down my 3K offer. I am out as you get another $5k in it (VERY QUICKLY NO MATTER WHAT OTHERS SAY) and you are getting close to full retail money on the car. He wants retail plus for it being black and it is a non running car and will have more issues than you think. There is no way the mice did not get into the interior or the wiring.

I'm not for these soak, and break loose see how it goes procedures. This car has been exposed to all the creatures of the rodent kind, and needs to be completely repaired.

Maybe if enough people send him $3K offers, he'll wise up. He'd be lucky to get the $12,500 for a done car, ready to drive.

This 70 300 is very cool,...almost a home run,......sans TNT, Sure-Grip and a console,...but you can't have everything.

You guys are too hung up on the valuation/price.

So he's asking more than anyone wants to or is willing to pay "here",.......what else is new????????

On the rust under the hood,....that's typical of many cars I've seen in long term storage where the floor of the "garage" sweats.

Moisture from unsealed concrete, or a compact dirt/gravel floor will sweat and evaporate moisture UP through the car and it gets trapped by the hood etc, and settles back on the engine compartment from the top down.

Or maybe the "garage" did have a minor flood,....but it looks like "garage floor sweat to me". But what do I know?

The engine being full of rodent urine isn't garage sweat, or flood sweat... All the critter remnants from the air cleaner is a good indication of what's to be expected internally.

True.

I didn't make any coefficient correlation between mouse piss and rust.

We can all agree it sure smells,.........like mouse piss.
