E5 Red was available on 1971 Chryslers although I have never see door hinges like that.
Looks like dark color taped off.

I don't know about the green interior, but the black in the hinge area and trunk is Zeibart. There's red on the firewall and not many would go to the effort to paint that with a color change. I think it's a red car.

On the other side of the coin, I'd say that sprayed on Zeibart crap cuts the value at least in half.

Other tip offs to original color... Jack instructions in trunk and VIN sticker on driver door.

If that's original it's kind of cool. I know in the early 80's you could order non recommended color combinations for an additional $250. Might be an interesting story, or someone was color blind and it looked good to them.

that's what i thought too. firewall, trunk braces, core support and underside of the hood are red.i can't see anyone going to all the trouble of removing the weatherstrips to color change. the interior looks black to me. honestly if i had the extra $$$ i would check this one out. there is something about it i really like.

That's comforting to know, John... :poke:

Geez... I didn't even think about your car... Sorry, nothing personal. At least you've figured a good way to get it off.

I just really thought that spraying it on an old car is either to cover up something or a really misguided attempt at making it "better".

Of course, Zeibart and I... Well we've got history.

I was helping out at a buddy's body shop in the evenings and we were working on this girl's car. An almost new 1978 Rally Sport Camaro. The car got hit in a parking lot and he had put a new quarter panel on the car. He cut the panel off and we could see the Zeibart was only sprayed in a 4 inch wide stripe in the middle of the panel. They had just drilled the hole and stuck the sprayer in and made a quick pass with enough to make a mess and that was that.

Anyway.... He couldn't get the paint to match and the girl kept stopping by every night to see the car. After a few tries, he decided the paint was too far off for blending and we ended up scuffing the whole car and spraying it.... and it took a few days more and every night she was up there and I showed her the inside of the quarter panel ..... and one thing lead to another.... I ended up asking her out.

It was an interesting relationship to say the least.... and I'll leave it at that. She was an engineer and made a ton of money.... Her family was rich too. She almost killed me one night when she put her 68 Camaro on its roof.

Sigh.... She dropped me like a hot rock for someone else after two years.

I blame Zeibart for all that.

My Dads 57 plymouth had roofing Tar on it for undercoating. I guess it did its job...

In the late 70's I was working in a body shop in NY and there was a Ziebart place next door. When they screwed up and drilled too far and came through the outer panel we had to fix it. The car would sit overnight and drip that black tar out so in the morning the shop looked like the La Brea Tar Pits. What a mess to clean up.

My only Story with Ziebart ?
Why is everyone calling it Zeibart ? :D
