This Newport is in enclosed storage on Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas. I have lost the space where I planned to restore it. I suspect it will sit for a long time before I can figure out where to work on it, as space is tough to find here in Vegas. I hate to move it on. I thought I would post this ad as a feeler to see if there is someone else out there who loves these cars also, and who can pick up the torch.

NOTE: these are the pics I can take as it sits. It is a big beast to attempt to get in and out of the trailer by myself for better pics. As soon as I can do so, I will take more/better pics.

The car comes as a complete body with suspension and interior. It is in rough cosmetic condition, needing repaint and an interior freshening unless you just want a "Roadkill"-style driver. It could use sporadic rust repair in unsurprising areas (e.g., trunk floor; fender doglegs; a couple of patches to the main floor pan) but it is structurally solid.

The car was originally a 400 and has front disc brakes. It was a California car that I bought from a hardcore Mopar family in the LA area. It was drivable up until about one month ago but had a non-original drivetrain that I removed. The gas tank has been internally restored (see pic) and looks great. The brake and power steering systems also worked great and were left intact and unopened.

Altogether, stab a drivetrain back in and it will be an immediate driver. For example, there is a guy in the region with a running 72 Newport with its original 400 but no title asking $2500. If you do your own mechanical work, combine this car and his drivetrain. Even with any miscellaneous parts needed while you are in there, this would be a registration-eligible driver for well less than $5k.

No wheels/tires are provided. If you are not local, you will need to bring wheels and tires to roll it onto your trailer. If you are local but don't have wheels and tires, I may be able to use my wheels and tires to help you get it to your destination, and then remove them.

It has a clear, clean and altogether normal (NOT salvage/rebuilt etc.) Nevada title in my name ready to transfer.

Price: $1250 cash, where-is, as-is.

@sincitymopar -- I see that the hood is open, could you please post a photo of the fender tag? Ditto for the inside of the trunk?

I will add some pics next time I am up at the base. If you are seriously interested, please message me.

Thank you.

To be clear, I’m not a buyer in this case. I already own a 1972 NYB. I’m trying to do two things with my request. One, I am interested in information about 1972 Chryslers and tags especially. Two, posting the tag should help you sell the car because, in this case, it’s hard to see/guess what options it has—and the tag will have that info.

I added some extra pics below that I could snap when showing it to a guy. The option tag appears to decode as follows:

Thank you for posting more information about CM23M2C216108

D34 in 1972 is an automatic, not a light duty one; your car has a 727

Very nice Newport Custom. Good luck with the sale!

Back about 30 years ago I rescued a white optional high back bucket vinyl seat and interior out of a 73 2 dr Newport custom and still have it stored in my garage. It was a totaled car but it was the most striking tri color car I ever saw.It was near that blue with a black vinyl top and that white interior..If I could go back in time I would have ordered that car in that color combo.Of course add the optional road wheels and power sunroof and it would be perfect!

Making that edit. Funny, I was thinking that with the big block, it shouldn't have come with a "light" or standard-duty (same thing?) transmission. I copied the info verbatim from an online decoder, which likely has generic info. I see in another post here that the D34 code really doesn't specify the duty level, just that it is an automatic.

In 1970, D32 was the 727 and D34 was the 904. I have no idea why Ma Mopar switched to D34 for everyone in later years.
