Have a exhaust leak on my car, Its coming from a pipe connected to smog pipe ( ???) its broken at the flange coming off the Rear Pass side exhaust mainfold. Dont know what's its called.

Checked Rock auto dont see anything listed for it. If i dont find anything for it can i have it blocked off ? Thanks

I'm thinking that you mean the air injection pipe and the leak is at arrow Y (lower right corner of pic). This is from a 1978 FSM, but it's probably the same for your 1977.

You could probably just remove all the air injection stuff and be done with it. A quick check with the NYS Inspection criteria shows they only do a smog equipment check on 25 years or newer, so you'd be safe with that. About New York State Inspections | NY DMV

The only issue might be about "have it blocked off". Some shops may not want to do that for fear of violating some unknown or possible NYS law. You'd have to ask.

Thanks, yes that's it. IF i don' t block it off what are the other option(s) to stop the leak ?

Thanks

The part is the air pump, or aspirator, crossover pipe. It connects to the back of both exhaust manifolds as shown in John's image, or as in the following image, which is for a 1977, and the same as 1978. The pipe fitting/flange is secured to the manifold with a stainless steel bolt with a gasket. It's possible your gasket is blown, and/or the bolt is loose.

The Chrysler part numbers for the parts are as follows, but likely not available from Chrysler, although the gasket and bolt might be:

- Gasket: 3671142
- Bolt: 6029747
- Crossover: 3769895

The gasket is available in an exhaust manifold gasket set from Fel-Pro, but they do not service it separately. Nor did McCord.

Chrysler produced a block off plate for vehicles not equipped with the air injection system, shown as item 25 in the foregoing image. It mounts with the same bolt and gasket. The part number for the block off plate is 3751249.

The original block off plate is shown, on the right, in the following image, with an original asbestos bearing gasket:

Before I learned of the factory plates in the 80s, I made my own from 3/16" steel plate as shown on the left in the foregoing image with an aftermarket gasket.
