440 Headers

These were the manifolds I sweated over.

They were 1971 383HP so had the ugly covered wagon tin intake air heater business and I cut the bosses off the manifolds to clean them up and make them more like the earlier ones.

Below the manifolds in the pipe were exhaust emissions anti backfire valves, i.e. one way valves brazed into the exhaust pipe just below the flange to suck air from the valves covers, a "Pan evac" system, best thing I ever did for an engine, beyond balancing and blueprinting, give the block a way to get rid of that air being pumped around by the underside of the pistons, because your grandma's PCV system isn't going to do it, resulting in eventual oil leaks, nevermind pumping in hot air from the block as part of your mixture, not ideal for performance at all.

This is the side with the heat riser junk removed and holes brazed shut.


No fan blades, and a windage tray, also alternator - w/ polished cases and matching Rally Red field coils - field cutout in the dashboard all to reduce parasitic drags. I spun this up in excess of 7000rpm and had to take non believers - Chevy/Ford guys - for rides to prove it, by way of driving down arterials in low gear with 3.23 gear = 60 mph in low gear at around 7000 rpm.

Overdid a few times @ 7500 for a split second, but 7200 wasn't unusual, on Valvoline 20W-50 racing oil.

Exhaust manifolds are still scrap metal!
Anybody that thanks mlanifold's are okay for high performance engines, knows NOTHING about high performance engines !!!
Manifolds are choking exhaust corks !
Smashed and crushed small headers are still better than the best h p manifold ever made !
If you bring up exhaust manifolds when people are talking headers, you don't have enough education to be in the conversation !
I'm not being mean, telling the truth is the kindest thing you can do.
 
Headers will almost always outperform the cast iron manifolds. You can still make lots of horsepower without headers. It depends on what you are looking to do. People still put headers on their cars and never rev the motors over 4,500 RPM.
 
TTI doesnt sell directly to the public so whoever you use for a dealer generally wont have them in stock and will just drop ship them from TTI in california...hence the shipping charge...at least they have the rest of the system designed to mate to their headers ... if you use another brand now you have to fab an exhaust...got my system from Marsh here in N.C. idk if his prices are any lower than Chrysler Power...my system is for HP manifolds so cant comment on fit and finish of their headers
I have purchased a few sets of headers and other exhaust parts directly from TTI.

I made 572whp through stock 383 a body manifolds. Just because most people can't do it doesn't mean it cannot be done. I also hooked it at no prep on a 235-60-14 m&h muscle car DOT bias.....with a 4-speed...water burnout only... : D

yes they currently sell direct...they didn't back when I bought mine many years ago...that was old news 3 yrs ago and I'd already owned the system for 5 years when I posted that....and to answer 70FuryConv's 3 yr old question, I had to modify the L/S hanger....the bracket is curved to follow the contour of the flange on the shock crossmember but the bar that the rubbers mount to cuts straight across that curve...you can get it to bolt on as is but it then sits too high and jams the rubbers against the floor...I cut the welds and bent the bar to follow the curve and re welded it...in retrospect it probably would have been easier to run a couple beads across the top of the rod to beef it up and then grind away the bottom to follow the curve...then again its been 8 years so maybe they've since redesigned it
