i looked today and notice 2 headlights in upside down in this car. i figured easy fix. boy i cant get anything to line up with the glass nubs and the square notches in the headlight buckets. is there and part numbers stampings so i can check if this has been messed with? also the 65 service manual isn't on mymopar. and the 66 manual says the adjuster screws are on the top. but the 65 parts guide shows them on bottom. ( i think it looks that way.). this has me confused a bit.

Does NOT matter where the adj screws are relative to the light itself. One is still for vertical and one is still for lateral adjustments.

The lights still need to be oriented correctly, though! Can you read the words cast into the lens "as installed" or are they upside down?

Seems like that the metal "buckets" the lights mount into are configured so they can only be installed one way?

I think maybe i figured it out last night. Do you think the grill could be installed upside down? The lights all fit in the buckets upside down. (Writing on front upside down) Those grille extensions on each side sure look like you could install them on either side of the car which would make everything upside down?

The buckets only mount one way and there are no rights and lefts. Just high and low beam. So, 2 part numbers total for the entire car. .

That changed in 1968 and there are rights and lefts, high and low beam for 4 part numbers total.

What I've seen happen is someone uses the wrong headlight bucket but manages to get the adjuster and springs to work. The headlights don't "clock" correctly.

So, if you can see part numbers, look in the '65 parts book and see if you have the correct buckets.

The buckets mount to the shell, and the shell mounts directly to the fender.

I'm pretty sure that the grille extensions are left and right and can't be installed incorrectly.

I had that issue with the right side on my 64. Someone had installed a left hand bucket on the right side. Once I figured out what I needed, I posted a wanted ad and a member came through with a nice used one.
