Looking to replace the radiator in my 66 Newport and possible a fan setup. What are my best upgrade options?

Why do you feel you need an upgrade?

Have you changed the freeze plugs in the block AND cleaned out those water passages?

How are you determining "over heating"?

Just curiouis.

recently been having a lot of cooling issues which has led close to overheating. Have had it boiled out once before and not sure if it's worth trying it again.
I know of a good radiator shop north of Syracuse if you are anywhere in the area. You might be able to add a core with more rows.

Competition radiators in Central Square. (315) 676-3790 He's a one person shop, but he turns them around fast.

I have not changed the freeze plus nor cleaned the water passages. Should look into that as the car was sitting outside a barn for a long time. Just been looking based on temp gauge, last drive was the worst when a lot of smoke started to appear around 250 degrees.

250 F certainly should be considered OVER-heating w these elder engines! I reckon you were burning oil galore at that temperature. Check your coolant FLOW first. If it flows well, after that episode, give the cooling jacket a good enema. Same for the radiator.

On the other hand, if coolant ISN'T flowing well, pop the thermostat, then check coolant flow again. An engine which has sat for decades may well have a stat corroded shut. DO look at what's in the crankcase/oilpan too. At 250F, one might have head gasket leaks.

With these remedial sanity checks, you then will know enough to go on. There's even a reasonable chance you can run the car a bit, sans worry.
