I have a 1967 Chrysler New Yorker. The headlights and cluster lights do not work. Flashers are fast at two beats per second and I have no hazard lights. Ground problem ? Do you think they’re all connected or individual problems?
Hi Rich. I'm now in Oklahoma.Dave, if you can get the service manual w/wiring diagram, that will be most helpful. Those toggle headlight switches are known to fail, and there's a guy out in Oregon (I think) named Devin Duke, and he rebuilds them. He rebuilt mine on my 67 Newport, and it worked well for about 5+ years. Then I lost the headlights. The dash lights came on with the headlight switch, but not the headlights. So, I pulled power off the foot switch, and installed a toggle under the dash to run the headlights. I posted about this fix less than a year ago, see the similar threads below.
Now if I'm driving at night, I flip the headlight switch to give me dash and running lights, and then I flip the under-dash toggle to give me headlights. The footswitch still operates high beams. The wiring diagram helped me figure this out.
Cheers,
Rich in Tampa
Have you checked for power going in to the switch? Black is power in for the headlights, pink is power in for all the other lamps.Thank you for the testimony. I’ll be sure to use him if I need a switch rebuild.
Thanks Devin. Oregon, Oklahoma, what's next, Ohio? Thanks for your message. At present my setup works just fine for as often as I drive the car at night (almost never). I am currently fussing with carburetor issues with the Newport, so if I get some spare time to pull the switch again, I'll get in touch and send it to you to have another look. Much appreciate your willingness to take a look at it. richardreau@hotmail.comHi Rich. I'm now in Oklahoma.
The switch is still covered under my lifetime warranty. Feel free to mail it to me so I can see what's going on.
