1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown

Selling my son's 1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown. He is currently in the military and only time he can enjoy this car is when he comes home on leave. The car has been in the family since 1970. My son is the owner and his Great Uncle was the previous owner. The car has 107xxx miles on it. The car is original, other than the OE Remanufactured parts to keep the car running. The car has the original 440ci and the 3-speed auto. It has the optional 600cfm Holley carburetor. The car has powered front disk brakes from the factory. Car does have factory air shocks in the rear, still the original. The paint and vinyl top are the original.
The interior has the original front electric leather seats and carpet. All 4 doors have cigar lighters and ash trays. About once a year the leather is treated with neatsfoot oil. The car has electric door locks and windows. Has tilt and telescoping steering wheel.
Items that have been replaced:
-Valve cover gaskets
-Motor mounts
-Water pump
-Fan clutch
-Mechanical points to Electronic points
-Spark plugs and wires
-K&N air filter (still have the stock air cleaner)
-New brake booster and brake master cylinder
-New stock front brake calipers and rotors
-New front wheel bearings (inner and outer)
-New Mechanical Fuel pump
-New Front shocks
-New Sway bar links
-Tires
-New Battery 2017
- New rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes
-Rebuilt Holley carburetor

SO SO VERY SAD to see this kind of listing. Oiginal car, now a family heirloom; now being sold off because the current owner is stationed overseas for a few years - REALLY?

Decades of family ownership, with lots of love as well, going away..... over THAT? I really hope there's more to this story here...... It not maybe some family members can help store it while he's away?

In 1997 I was recalled to active duty (USN) and deployed to Sarajevo, BiH with NATO Stabilization forces for 9-months, which became 11+ months. Upon return, I was greeted by numerous family members at Dulles airport, AND chauffered home in my '67 Imperial. I had no idea how much I would miss it until that ride...., which I wouldn't have traded that for anything........

We miss more than just family while we're away.......and if any car should be treated like family, it's this one.

My Grandparents did that to my Dad when he went in the service. He'd built a 55 Chev that was his pride and joy. Some guy showed up at the house accusing my father of taking his .22 and never paying for it. My Grandparents handed them the keys to the 55.

Just seems like a cold move to me.

If this father sells this car out from under his active military son without this brave young man's knowledge, he doesn't deserve to breath the air available in this country, being protected and respected by his son! That said, a very nice, well maintained Imperial for the money.

I almost have the right mind to buy it and when the son wants it back in 10,15 years (which I promise, when it’s a family heirloom - they always do), sell it back to him so that it doesn’t end up with a flipper/overseas.

That's good to hear, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was family pressure somewhere with intent of taking that nice garage space it seemed to have. Hopefully he (the son) won't regret that later on. Once a family heirloom goes, it's GONE. THANKS for posting this update though.

This brave service member must be stationed out of the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, I’m guessing because the car has a Virginia state inspection in the window. This similar story happened to me as well, while I was at Boot Camp my girlfriend sold my first car which was a 68 Plymouth valiant, it wasn’t a bad *** muscle car, but I loved it anyway. Been looking for it ever since, but as stated, once they’re gone they’re gone.. this guy is probably still too young to understand what keeping this gorgeous heirloom in the family is all about, also as stated above, he’ll regret it when you gets older..
