SUPER renovated car. All receipts. Books/manuals. Gorgeous cruising machine. You will get LOTS of “thumbs up”.

We’ve seen this (GT8?) 1971 Monaco 2dr before. My best guess is that it used to be owned by @eyemon in Alaska before moving to the west coast and then Arizona. I’ll add details when I have a bit more time.

Looks very clean from the photos. It could be the bright AZ sun but it looks darker than GT8 on my car. Could it be Y9 or K6?

GY9 has quite a bit of green in it, that's definitely not it. See the photo of Medina, my 1971 Monaco, in its original livery here. That photo of Medina shows what the Dark Gold / Tawny Gold paint looks like in the shade. Here is what the original GY9 looks like in the sun. In both cases, clearly not what we have here.

GK6 might be a possibility, but it would be more red/orange than what we see in the CL ad. To wit, here is a GK6 Monaco 2dr that sold in 2012.

I stick by GT8 for the time being: this thread showing a 1971 Gran Coupe looks very similar to the Monaco for sale in AZ. BUT, my money is on the latter's having been repainted (whereas yours is original). As supporting evidence for a repaint, note for example that the Monaco scripts on the lower quarters of the Yuma car are located below the side moldings — whereas they should be above the BSM as researched/discussed in another thread (starting with this post).

PS: higher-res pics of the car can be found on OfferUp (in that ad, the car is listed in Marysville, WA).

Back in 2018, records on Flickr show that this Monaco lived in Washington State. The front plate is the same. So are the incorrect LHS rear-view mirror and the incorrectly-placed Monaco scripts:

Note also that the Monaco crests, which should be located like an "asterisk" next to the Monaco scripts on each of the rear quarters, have been relocated above the pentastars on the front fenders (there should only be one pentastar, on the RHS, but an extra one apparently has been aded to the LHS for symmetry).

It is clearly the same car. It was advertised for $17.5k in Las Vegas, NV back in January of this year. I contacted the then-owner in mid-February, but by that time the car must have been sold as I never heard back. Given that the car is now listed in NV and WA, it may well be that ownership has not changed since 2018.

PS: Amazingly, the Jan. 2022 FB ad in LV is still up and running here. Photos attached below from that ad:

I have a 1971 Imperial Le Baron in its original Tawny Gold and this isn't it. I also have a 1971 Chrysler New Yorker in Tahitian Walnut (T8) and this car is an exact match for that color. My only hang up with this car and my New Yorker is that I do not like white vinyl tops with dark body colors, rather I prefer vinyl tops that match darker body colors. So while I would leave the original body code plate original for authenticity, I might be tempted to make the top match closely with the T8. Otherwise, this looks like a great car with manual a/c and all the options meet the bare minimums with me . For example, I would likely add a power bucket driver seat and this car has the preferable manual a/c that looks like it has had some work done on the hoses and receiver drier areas so maybe it is actually working.

The most unfortunate thing about the car to me at least is mounting the tach on the instrument panel pad - dumb! I would also put back an original black rim blow steering wheel rather than a later year one that is currently on the car and the incorrect color.

I have a 1971 Monaco with the 383-4 power train that needs a restoration, but buying this car would save me some money and I could sell my 71 Monaco and avoid a year of my life doing the restoration project if all checks out with this car upon further investigation.

I would use the dual snorkel air cleaner on something else and put back the original one and get rid of the tach - original 440 standard engines (I am assuming this is a standard engine since I don't see any orange on the engine in these photos at least) have good enough power for me and I don't need to drag race.

I also see that an electric fan was added to the cooling system to achieve low speed improved cooling power that was a weak spot with these cars especially in hot environments such as where it is now. I might actually leave it in place but paint the support brackets black.

I also find it interesting that the emission label appears to be on the front of the radiator support whereas it should be located on the driver side inner fender well. It also looks like a California emission label since it is blue/white instead of green/white and I have never seen a reproduction of that CA label anywhere (if it is indeed a standard engine). If the car was originally sold to Alaska, it would have had an original green/white label.

There are a lot of curiosities with this car and more investigation would be needed to understand what is and has been going on with it. I would also like to understand just what "renovation" has taken place with this car fully.

The vast majority of images taken these days are captured on smart phones which are "auto exposure". The white top, interior and bright background (light gravel) all will make the exposure compensate making the images darker than if none of those factors were present. It could certainly be GT8, as is my Fury, but just appears darker to me in these pictures. Anyway, it looks like a good, clean car, if a little pricey.

I am not sure that the air cleaner is incorrect. The color is not right, but it looks like the correct on Medina, my own 1971 Monaco -- see my 2yr-old post here, including references and a link to Nick's Garage where tons of pics of Mopar air cleaners may be found.

Interesting take on the electric fan -- the previous owner of Regina, my FQ3 1970 Polara 'vert, installed one for the same reason and I have decided to keep it too.

Finally, I can only surmise that the car was @eyemon's. He was the second owner of a T-code 1971 Monaco 2dr, so the car may or may not have been sold in Alaska originally. Eyemon was 84 at the time of his last post in 2016, and the description of the options on his Monaco and of the renovations that he had made are consistent with what I see on this car. One way to know (almost) for sure would be to see if the GT8 Monaco currently for sale has a mini starter, as he had installed one in his car. Of course, I could be completely wrong

What spark plugs did he install? :poke:

So I wonder where the car is? Yuma or Washington? The CL ad pictures were in Yuma but most likely this guy is a "Snowbird" and will no doubt soon be flying North for the summer. Will he take the car or leave it here?

Yes, Ayilar, you are of course correct about the air cleaner and I actually do know better since my 73 Monaco wagon also had the dual snorkel air cleaner and it had the T code (standard) engine. I surmised years ago that since most Dodge 440s were patrol cars and for production plant reduction of different parts, all 440s in Dodge C bodies at least did get the dual snorkel. Thank you for the reminder!

So if it is the same owner since 2018, then since it didn't sell for $17,500, he raises the price to $20K to be more likely to sell it??? It seems I do see this logic in other for sale ads too.

That really is one beauty of a car!
I am reading that correctly? GT9 Tahitian Walnut Metallic
Sure don't see that color often at all.
The white interior really makes that Walnut Pop !!

GT8 Dark Tan. AFAIK, there was no GT9 option as per the attached list of Dodge colors in 1971.

Sure looks like a "9" to me! And what is the SPD on your tag?

is the last number of the vin a "9"?

My 71 Polara has the same first five numbers (10906)

Carsten
"9" it is. That's pretty cool! Does your car have the same assembly plant code "D" immediately ahead of the "10906", Belvidere IL? If so, good chance both cars ran down the assembly line together one would guess.
