1973 Federally mandated bumper guards. Note how the black rubber part protrudes. I believe 5-mph was the ‘No damage’ threshold.

Teachable moment.
I didn’t like the way the nuts were installing, so even though I brushed the threads previously with a wire brush, I stopped installation, pulled out my tap and die set and chased the threads with the die to clean them up. Also cleaned the nuts. 3-n-1 oil.
5/16 NC (“C” is for coarse vs. “F” fine) 18 thread type.

Thanks for the tip. I have heard cerium oxide paste is good for glass scratches too.
