9 Cars With Extremely Big Engines

"B I G" for it's time frame, but not as BBIIGG as some of the engines of "fast" luxury cars of the 1930s, or when compared to current diesel truck engines. Much less some aircraft engines of prior times.

It seems that "size matters" only in naturally-aspirated internal combustion engines in modern times.

How big were the 1930's car engines? Were they bigger than 46.9 liters or 2862 cubic inches? I don't believe they mentioned truck or airplane engines. Cars as in the title..

The Rolls Royce special looks to be a 30's car at 27 liters or 1647 ci with 1400 hp at 3000 rpms. Around the 4 minute mark.
The BMW Brutus at almost 50 liters was an airplane engine.

Back then, there were lots of 400+cid engine, with "lots" of cylinders making power. Back then, a "luxury" car owner had the luxury of getting the car into high gear and not having to downshift unless he had to stop and start again. Torque did that, which meant big engines and DEEP rear axle ratios (with the larger diameter tires of that time).

As all engines were mounted "solid" to the frame, the more cylinders in the engine, the smoother it ran and less vibration transferred into the passenger compartment. The old deal about being able to balance a dime (on its edge) on the intake manifold at idle, of a V-16 engine. OR was it a nickel? Either way, smooooth running was the implication.

So what are you saying,,you don't like the video? The video is incorrect? Fake news?

This topic was for entertainment purposes only...:D

The first car was an inline 4 cylinder displacing 28.3 liters or 1726.972 cubic inches and over 1900 ft lbs of torque. Beautiful isn't it?
