As mentioned in my progress thread, the reason my passenger side was sagging and not adjusting properly seems to be that the adjuster bolt was rusty, seized, and the threads were worn.

I chased the threads with some wire I had lying around (my proper thread chase was at my house, and I was working on the car at my brother's), added some oil, and threaded it back in. It adjusted much better, and the car is now properly adjusted.

But I'd like to replace the bolts with un-worn pieces. Rock Auto doesn't seem to have them listed, and I didn't see them on NAPA's website, either.

My car is a 1967 Imperial, but I've been told they're common to all C-Bodies. I also searched under 1967 New Yorker, just in case. Anyone have a source?

As a last resort I think ARP will make you whatever you want/need, and itll be American made and of the highest quality

That's interesting. Not only is that bolt different, but the adjuster nut-thingie (that's a technical term of art) is different. I didn't take any pictures of this up close, but if you look at this pic, you can see that the ends of the adjuster are semi-circular, and ride in a cupped slot on the control arm.

I guess that means the parts are different from C-Body to Imperial.

Looks like the bolts were replaced. Maybe Dematt can look under his Imperial to confirm whether these bolts look correct For the torsion bar adjusters. The pic Stan posted looks like the ones that should have been there.

Maybe, but the bolt ends are rounded off on the nose like the ones in the eBay listing. I would be curious to see what another set looks like, especially since the piece they thread into looks to be different, too.

im the same spot, just loosened those bad boys up. mine look like the pic commando posted on a 68 fury. but the mopar tech article said its a 3/4,, and mine are 13/16th or 15/16 I forget, but it wasn't 3/4... anyone ?

driver side loosened up really easy, passenger side fought me. I bet its worn out like your pic :/

does P S T have them?

I checked a few of the aftermarket places earlier, and I think one of them was PST. Nobody had them. You probably have or had a leaking power steering system at some point. I think that's what kept the driver's side so well lubed up on my car!

Note to other owners: next time you change your oil, squirt a little penetrating oil on your adjusters. Keep 'em from getting rusty.

I think my previous 67 imp. had the same type as the OP. It's been awhile, but I believe they where that smaller head with the shoulder on them.

The ones Pst manufactures are for the a b e body guys. They use the 3/4 headed ones. The c body's use the 15/16" ones. They are much stronger.

Imperials for some reason use 5/8 hex, I remember my buddy bitching about this on his 68 that they where different than everything else. It might just be to designate it for Imperial use and a c body one might fit, I remember in the fsm all the tourque values are higher on a Imp why?

Probably because it's freaking heavy!

In sorting through tire stuff, I noticed that all other '67 Chryslers are 8.55-15 tires standard. Imperials are 9.15. 5x5 bolt patterns, too. Chrysler was the engineering company, so they probably uprated everything on the heavier cars.

So looks like I'll be buying a used part from a yard, then. That's fine. I made it work, and I no longer have an urgent need. I'll just get it fixed as part of my front-end work.

Thanks, but those look like the C-body adjusters, and it seems like Imperials have a different part. Since mine still work, I'll just keep my eyes peeled.

PST has C body ones ... the pic I posted says it's not the actual photo. However the heads may look different. James can probably get you a pic of them.

Yes we have a set for the C bodies. I will try to get a photo loaded in a bit.

Thanks
James
