Holley 7448 two barrel carb. I've heard really good things about putting this carb on a poly 318. I guess you need an adapter to make it bolt on, no big deal. What about the throttle linkage? What needs to be done to make it work? My 60 Dart pushes the throttle open when most cars pull the throttle open. My other question is, is it worth it? My car runs really good with the factory Stromberg carburetor on it. Finally, if I should decide it's worth spending the money, where's the best place to get the best price when ordering it?
 
There's probably nothing wrong with that Holley 2bbl. Right cfm, basically, but as they're now on sale on the Holley website, basically $400.00 + 65.00 for the elect choke kit and maybe the Chrysler throttle linkage bolt-on, you're pretty well close OR into 4bbl territory. Plus some kind of air cleaner for the Holley, too. FWIW.

If your current linkage "pushes open", then it could probably be adapted to the bottom of the throttle linkage, rather than the top where later models "pull". The Chrysler throttle linkage adapter could give you the needed "hole" to hook your existing linkage to, plus still have the existing lower hold in the basic throttle on the carb for the return springs to hook to?

AND . . . you'll need a new fuel line to the carb, given the "race bowl" on the Holley. More money and such.

What's wrong with the Stromberg other than it's "not new"? A good reman Holley 2210 (1970 OEM 383 spec) might be a better and more OEM-based alternative. OR a '66 383-spec Stromberg WWC3-262 or similar 1.56" Carter BBD. Although I like the WWC3 (which our '66 Newport started with), I do like the later Holley 2210 for many reasons, but in the long run, the Carter BBD 1.56" throttle bore for 383s might be the better option . . . in reman. All of these would have a bit more cfm than what you now have, more like another 35-45cfm, for a bit more top end power. Then, too, a Carter BBD calibrated for a later 318 (later '68 Fury) might be more of a bolt-on option, depending upon the venturi and baseplate bolt pattern on your existing 2bbl intake. Always BEST to not need to add anything between the carb and intake, except the thick OEM

The other thing to consider is that the Stromberg carbs have a well deserved reputation for quality and reliability. As cbody67 has suggested, going to the slightly larger Stromberg might be a better option as everything should still fit right.

The main issue with the 383-size carbs is that their mounting flange has the mounting studholes wider apart than on the 318 carbs. I know the later 318 BBDs had a smaller flange than the 360/383/400 Holley 2210s, so be sure to check those dimensions on what you have. What model year and car?

The earlier '60s 318 carbs had the air cleaner with the band clamp around the base, whereas the later '60s carbs had a real air cleaner center stud. Still, you can spend less than $200 for a later reman carb and used 318 air cleaner or spend about $500.00 for that Holley 2bbl stuff.
