i just finished rebuilding my afb. now the part number on the carb is a 9636sa. so what i've read is the SA means its a clone right?

the rebuild kit came with a plastic accel pump. and the pump that was in it matches fine. but i'm told (on another forum by a not some friendly fellow) that i need a carter accel pump instead of the edelbrock that my kit supposedly came with. seems to be contradicting being my clone would be an edelbrock instead of a carter right? or am i confused?

either way my problem is the pump rod is binding on the hole in the carb to the outside. so when i hit the gas the linkage starts to bind and causes a stiff pedal feel until the pump passes the bind.

pump its self works. the bind isn't in the plunger to cylinder wall, but the main body rod to the outside hole it pokes through, does that make sense?

Clocking the rod 180 degrees might solve the problem, if that didn't work, maybe flipping 180. Or you could post a pic.

Think of looking at the rod from the plunger lever to the throttle lever and if the rod enters from the left, clock it so it enters from the right vice vs. If that doesn't work, try swapping ends from plenger lever to throttle lever.

Oh and I believe SA is aftermarket not OEM. But I've been wrong before and this is what it looks like.

this was before i rebuilt it of course. and i have made sure my linkages are the same as this pic. but i'll check again.

not sure i follow you on clocking the rod. which rod are you speaking of
