The event was was in Wisconsin. The promoters directed the Illinois-tagged vehicles onto the ice, when asked if it was OK to park there. They said "Park at your own risk!" My cousin was there, she said it was quite hilarious for the Cheeseheads in attendance, to watch the Illinois boys' vehicles break through after a short time.

Lesson learned - Lakes and ponds make for miserable parking lots!
