Convertible Top Installation Cost

Looking for input on having a convertible top installed. I don't want to do it myself as I won't enjoy the job so I won't have the patience to do it right.

I ordered a Robbins top when they were having their 25% off sale and am waiting for it to be shipped. I stopped by a top shop and they quoted a two day job and ~$2k to install the top, including pads, wires and other bits and pieces.

This seems reasonable but I am curious what you all think. Is this a fair price for a quality top installed?
 
I'm having my top (68 Polara) installed as we speak, I had to get on 4 month waiting list. quoted everything, motor, cylinders, wires, tack strips, painting frame. pads and factory material $4K

Moorestown Auto and Boat Upholstery on Camden Ave in Moorestown. I thought they did an excellent job. I'm having them do my 1970 300, but I'm not at a point with it to get a quote, but I'm thinking around the $2000-2500 range.

Just picked up my '70 Fury convertible from the upholstery guy. I know it's a fuselage, but they're similar top wise. New well liner, top, and installation of a Kee Auto top with a glass back window was $1850, which included the top/glass. I paid another $545 for a new boot from Legendary. All well worth it.
 
The top done on my 69 300 convertible all in was $1200.00 in 2018 The top was from Legendary Auto Interiors w new pads. The last one was done for @ayilar red 1970 Dodge Polara convertible. Both were done by Rick's Convertible and Auto Upholstery. There is a difference in material quality. So yes you get what you pay for.

The cost for Poppy’s was quite a few hundreds higher. I think it is mostly inflation — not material quality, though. Correct?

In related matters, the bow in the above photo was incorrect. David got the installer to redo it right. Here’s after:

These prices are all over the place! I have two quotes for $1800-$2000 for the install only, I supply the top. Moorestown Auto and Boat Upholstery just quoted me $1800-$2200 for everything out the door. It seems the mistake I made was buying the top.

Also, for anyone who may stumble on this thread. If you ever buy a top online, make sure you are getting BOTH sections, front and rear with window.

That was for everything. My wife insisted on a special fabric as well so that added to the cost. Thanks for calling Moorestown, that's about what I expect for my 70 300, the only thing I have is the frame.

Thank you again for the recommendation. I just stopped up at Moorestown Boat and Auto Upholstery and put down a deposit. Sam is clearly a professional who has been in business for over 40 years! Will post back in a few weeks with a total out the door price after the top is installed.

Thanks! I'm still getting my 300 on the road. I'm probably a year away from paint, but have been debating if I should get the new top before or after. My last project I got the top before paint and regretted it, but then again I was 40 years younger and less experienced in painting. Being able to drive the car after 15 years is making me impatient.
 
Sam at Moorestown did say he was semi-retired so hopefully he is still working when you're ready.
 
He is going to order the cables, pads and anything else he needs to make the well liner. Said he would call me in 7-10 days when he has those pieces so we can schedule the work. I don't know how long he will have the car once I drop it off. Will keep you posted.

That is about right. On my 68, labor was in that range plus the top, weatherstriping, new pump and cylinders. I
