Something that looks like it would have come with the car but wont break the bank either?

Years ago, a friend of mine installed a kit he bought from JC Whitney. If I recall, it was pretty simple and it used a magnet that was attached to the drive shaft and a nearby sensor to pick up the speed of the magnet, as it rotated.

i checked a couple of systems there and not sure which one will work..
it also seems like the trend these days is to not include the interior controls with the kit.
 
Most likely, the 73 unit can be made to work nicely. The only thing that might be different is how the turn signal stalk mounts to the switch, but that could be figured out.

Make sure you get everything... Speedo cables, brackets, wire harness etc. The 73 switch may be slightly different, but it will still work and look better than some aftermarket piece.
