Im just learning of dealer codes after reading the service tag on my New Yorker.
Is it safe to assume these stay the same as long as the dealer stays in business and the name does not change?
According to AI it looks like my car sold new at LaFontaine Chrysler in Lansing MI.
Anyone familiar with this place? I would like to find some pictures from the era.

What year is your New Yorker?

I think LaFontaine is originally from the Detroit area? They have taken over a number of Lansing dealerships in the last decade or so. That location was just Dodge back in the day. I remember going there in '78 when my dad looked at an Aspen wagon. The name I remember is Snethkamp, but it may have been something else earlier. I don't know when that location opened, but a number of dealerships moved to South Penn in the '60s and early '70s. I have access to some old Lansing City Directories, might be a couple of days, but I'll see what else I can find.

It's a 65. I don't know if that's where it sold new but thats where it received the required service to maintain the warranty. The 6 month was Jan 25 66 with 5700 miles. Would have sold around July of 65.

Looks like they put on a fair amount of miles in the 60's in the area. I found a water bill from a small town in Texas in the 80's maybe sold or maybe retired.
 
This guy must have been a commuter. Maybe to Odessa to an oil company. I was trying to to guess when you buy a new 65 New Yorker and my best guess is after 45 years old.
Anyway Im building a profile for this guy.

My rough outline is 45 yes old oil industry guy. Kept the car for the rest of his life. Was in town 20 years later. Retired/ got old and moved to power to be close to his kids.
Or died and kids went back home and brought back dad's car.

Well that makes more sense. That's less than a mile from the house that I have the water bill for from 86. The dealer number must have been resigned after they closed in Kermit. Or AI is just wrong.

AI doesn't have a list of dealer numbers and couldn't find one or just didn't understand the question and just assumed the address number was good enough and found a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge dealer with that address number.

It looks like it may just have been a local used car. Or maybe the guy had a rental house there and received the water bill out of state. Found an Obit with details on many moves. I left a voice mail with who I think may be the son of the owner or later owner.
 
I’m looking for more information on dealer number 7236. Only info I have is that it is probably in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is in regards to my 66 Newport.

Don't know this guy but there is apparently a list hergfest may have a list or he may just have a car from every dealer..

07236 is Reedman Corp Route #1 Langhorne PA. I think they were a Mega Dealer?
 
At the bottom of every thread on this forum there is a section called "Similar threads". I wonder why for this thread the "Old Dealer Codes" thread is not included. Another quirk of AI (= Artificially Called Intelligence), maybe?
