I am trying to put on my disk brakes and need a little help. My fourth pic has the spindle just hanging there. Do the calipers go on the front or back of the spindle? disk brakes 001.jpgdisk brakes 002.jpgdisk brakes 003.jpgdisk brakes 004.jpg

You can mount the caliper front or rear but rear mount makes the hose routing almost a bolt in. The factory 69-73's were rear mounted.

When I did mine I just had to slightly change the direction of the hard line where the flex line connects.

I found my answer on Mopar action website disk o tech. Calipers are towards the front. I have the wrong spindle on there now.

That article uses pics from a B-body which were front mounted. I used the same info and after I got everything bolted up, there was no way to plumb the hoses without re-doing all the hard lines. Tear it all apart and swapped the spindles side to side and problem solved.

I just had my 67 Imperial's front end apart installing new shocks and the calipers are rearward of the centerline. I don't believe it's a good idea to just mount them wherever the hoses reach. I think it may have to do nose dive when you hit the brakes. But I'm not sure. I'm no engineer. Just calling it as I see it on my car.

In the CHP test analyst of the 69 Polara one thing they commented on was how tight the brake hoses were.

OK. Who here has a disc brake '73?
Step forward now.

I say front.

Just remember the bleeder has to be at the highest point.
If it's not, you're doing it wrong.

C-body calipers are rear hung. B-body was front. All those how to article pics are usually b-body.

Just swap the spindles side to side. The hoses will thank you.

TWOSTICK IS CORRECT! MOUNT THE CALIPERS ON THE REAR OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE BRAKE HOSE ROUTING ISSUES!

I contacted Richard Ehrenberg writer of "Disc-O-Tech" and presented him with my situation WHEN I followed his write-up and hung the calipers in the front and in accordance to the photos he provided in the document.

His response: Quoting the famous line from Cool Hand Luke: “What we have here is failure to communicate”. That line of mine you quote refers to the “main” target vehicles. On a ‘65-‘72 C-body, you need to emulate the OEM ‘73 C-body setup which is, indeed, rear-hung calipers"
