Are the 77 manuals downloadable anywhere? I have hardcopy editions but also like PDFs so I can search. If they are not downloadable, I'll be getting the spine sliced off mine so I can scan them in. (Then I'll get them 3-hole drilled so I can put them them in binders).

Once I get them scanned I'd be happy to share them online but what's the best way to do that these days?

I believe the main issue with scanning is the "dpi" (dots per inch) resolution. Normal ink jet printers are about 600dpi, I believe?

The Automotive History Preservation Society //autohistorypreservationsociety.com (might need to manually input that address) accepts scanned pdf files into their archives. Their specs might provide guidance in that area?

Just some thoughts,

I appreciate your wanting to do this but scanning the manuals, the parts books, and the electrical manuals would take a ton of man-hours.

Sure, I'd be happy to do it. It's not too much trouble for me. We sell copiers so I have access to a big one with a high speed scanner. 600dpi is equivalent to a "copy" so would look nearly identical to the original and you'll be able to zoom in on things and it'll keep its quality. And I have customers that are print shops that have big industrial paper cutters so they can cut the spine off in a snap.

No need to do that if you have a scanner like the Internet Archive has:

A good high speed scanner like the flatbed kind of days gone by are (I think) archaic now and the way to go is just take a picture with a high resolution camera which most basic bottom of the line bargain cellphones are capable of now. I do it with the local fishwrap rag of a newspaper we have around here that they extort $3.95 for a single daily issue. I just got a bottom of the line Samsung A15 that does 12M & 50M and when I see something at the newsstand that interests me on the front page I take a picture of it and if I need to read more I just go to my local library and take pictures of the whole page and it comes out quite well, but at 50M a single page is like 9MB so that may not be the best solution. I'd post up a example but even when I resave the .jpg at 50% it comes out to 1.7MB which is to large to post here. heh

(edit) see how this looks at 40% 1.4MB nope not even at 20% we will try just a article pic, lets see how a screenshot looks)

Well I guess that's readable.

We had a fast scanner at work and simple as stick a pile of paper in it and hit the button. When it was done, it emailed the file to you. Pretty slick stuff....

That was over 10 years ago (been retired almost 10) and I'm sure they are faster/better now.

Shaving the spine and then using the high-speed scanner for the automatic feed function will take much of the labor out of the operation. One thing the AHPS does is to segment the service manuals into sections, rather than one big document to download. Same with the parts books on their website, too. Something like that might work?

Just hope no paper jams happen!

Enjoy!

C'mon man, the machines we sell never jam.....well, almost never lol. Actually it may be a bit more challenging than normal because the pages are pretty thin paper but it'll be fine.

I'll see about uploading it to that AHPS. I notice they currently only have 3 Mopar service manuals listed.

No 77 manual here but as an FYI, lots of older manuals are available here starting at 1955. Service Manuals – MyMopar
