There were LOTS of Datsun and Toyota 4wd pickups running around like that, back in the '80s. AFTER they'd been "lifted" for a higher ride height to clear the "monster" off-road tires the owners put on them. Then they wondered why u-jointgs and clutches didn't last long, even with their 100 horsepower 4 cyl engines.
