I pull it off from the ballast resister.

Use a relay. Let the hot from the ballast turn the relay on, and draw the power for the choke from the Batt positive. That way the choke won't draw down the power on the ignition circuit.

On my '67 Imperial I got mine from the feed to the voltage regulator. Very short run, almost next to it. My ballast was on the drivers side, this was on the passenger side
