front shock nut tightening

This may have been asked, but i'm busy at the moment so can't do a search.

How tight should the front shock upper nut be tightened? It didn't seem like it should be really torqued down, but that is probably wrong.

Car: 70 Sport Fury.

I usually torque until the bushings are well compressed and there's a good amount of effort to tighten further. You'll know it when you see it.
 
I tighten until the bushing runs flush with the washer. So tighten until flush or a little more like 70bigblock said.
 
Also, make sure the bushing flange indexes with the hole it fits into, upper and lower. The amount of "sqush out" can depend upon if the bushing is taller or shorter. Key thing is to not sqush it too much! A flat ratchet and the shock stud holding tool work well for this operation.
