My new 70 Fury is in the garage, and pretty much winterized. One of the minor things I want to address is the black paint around the headlamp bezels. Any of you guys know what the best way to freshen up the paint would be? Would really appreciate any advice you can give me on paint type and prep work.

Thanks in advance

If you can post a pic of the grille as it is now with a closeup, then we can see the condition of it is as it is now and then give a proper recommendation regarding whether rubbing it back is enough or full strip etc.

Man, it's kind of difficult to get good shots of the black. It doesn't actually look too bad here and if truth be told it doesn't look too bad in person; it's just more of a charcoal grey hue than a black - these are 45 years old after all. I wanted to freshen it up to really contrast it with the chrome. Anyone have any experience of doing this? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'll take a stab here.

My guess is the charcoal coloring is the sun/UV rays baking the piss out of what was originally black paint. SEM sells a black trim paint in a rattle can that might work.

I don't think it was super deep/gloss black, but likely something "barely black". Sorry if that sounds like a Victorias Secret advert.

Hahahah! So should I remove the existing paint and start afresh, or touch up the paint?
